EFT Mirror at UCLA, SUNDAY October 4, 2009
The UCLA College Bowl Club is pleased to announce its mirror of Early Fall Tournament 4
DATE: The tournament will be held on Sunday October 4, 2009.
FORMAT: The tournament will be mirroring the Brown's Early Fall Tournament.
ELIGIBILITY: This tournament is open to collegiate teams
PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee: $100
Buzzer discount: -$5 each
Staff discount: -$10 each
Travel discount: -$10 for every 200 miles traveled
Second Team discount: -$10 (Non-cumulative, i.e. 4th team is still $90 base) -or- High School also attending TWAIN discount: -$10. You may claim for more teams at EFT than were at TWAIN.
If your program cannot afford to register, please contact the TD and we will try to make arrangements to accommodate your needs.
Please make checks payable to "College Bowl Club of UCLA." Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity, including "UCLA Quiz Bowl," as we cannot cash those checks. Please bring your check with you to the event. If you will need an invoice made, please contact Ian before the tournament. All teams will be given receipts.
The cap is unofficially going to be set at 24 teams, but we will try to accommodate as many teams as possible. It is likely that the limiting factor will be moderator availability-- we very much encourage teams to send moderators!
The tournament directors are Ian Drayer and Mik Larsen. If you are interested in attending, please e-mail me at Golran-at-ucla.edu with the following information:
1) Your school's (or team's) name
2) Representative's name and e-mail address
3) The number of teams you are bringing
4) The number of buzzer systems and/or moderators you would like to bring
Updates about the tournament will be posted on the hsquizbowl.org forums and on the quizbowl Yahoo! group; however, they should also be posted online. Our club website is http://quizbowl.bol.ucla.edu. A link should become available once this announcement has been posted.
If you have any questions about any of this, please e-mail Ian Drayer.
More information such as start time, building location, and parking information will become available as we near the tournament date, though you can expect to pay $10 for an all-day parking pass for a single car to park on UCLA's campus.

Unless we have a sudden influx of teams, we are thinking about canceling this. A decision will be made tomorrow night.

We haven't even had a practice yet. I have no idea whether we are interested.

If people haven't booked hotels yet, you could also consider delaying it a week in order to allow teams on the quarter system having some more time to recruit new players.

Thanks to an influx of Stanford people, this should happen as scheduled.

Sorry, as I suspected, we don't have enough people who can make the tournament on such short notice.

Nope. It was Chris Chiego (1st year grad) and Brian, a Freshman. I think this shows them jumping to #1 in SoCal, maybe all of the West depending on the lineup Stanford puts out there.

The stats are up at http://quizbowl.gimranov.com/stats/index.php?t=eft2009 . A full write-up should be forthcoming from Mik and Ian-- UCSD went undefeated to take 1st.

Re: EFT Mirror at UCLA, SUNDAY October 4, 2009
I'd be very hesitant to say this based on (1) a novice tournament with (2) most of the best players in the area not playing. If some semblance of UCSD A, Irvine A and Stanford A teams show up to the MO mirror in two weeks, maybe that'll give us some insight into who's on top.Dude Love wrote:Nope.
