ACF Fall 2011 Northeast at Yale (11/05/11)

I am pleased to announce that Yale University will be the Northeast site for ACF Fall 2011 to be held on Saturday, November 5th, 2011 in William L. Harkness Hall. Registration will begin at 8:30. We hope to start the tournament by 9:15.

This is a packet submission tournament; therefore, as per the ACF submission rules, any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2010 is required to submit a packet in order to participate in an ACF tournament in 2011-2012. This includes ACF Fall. As of last year, high school players are now included in this definition and are subject to the same discounts and penalties as college teams. Teams required to submit packets who do not submit one by the final deadline will be dropped from the tournament.

Base Fee: $120 per team

Packet Discounts/Penalties - Submitted before 11:59 PM eastern time on:
September 11, 2011: -$50
September 25, 2011: -$25 (-$50 for teams not required to submit packets)
October 9, 2011: No penalty (-$25 for teams not required to submit packets)
October 16, 2011: +$25
October 23, 2011: +$50

To register, please e-mail me at john.lawrence@yale.edu, letting me know how many teams you are planning on bringing and what discounts you think you are eligible for, or post in this thread, making clear that you are registering. Writing something like "we're interested in attending" will be interpreted as exactly that: an expression of interest, and not explicit registration. Also: for room reservations reasons, the field is capped at 27 teams.

Without knowing how many rounds we're running (dependent on what the bracketing schedule needs to look like), I can't say for sure, and collegiate tournaments have a bad habit of starting late because of transportation delays. I don't think we'll finish earlier than 5 and I hope we do not need to finish later than 6:30. I'll have a better estimate once I know our schedule.

MIT seems likely to send a team (maybe two, but most likely one). We'll have a packet as well. I also wouldn't mind moderating to get the discount, but we have people interested in this.

Stats should begin to appear in (http://srivatsa.org/staaaats/fall2011/) once stats begin to be posted. As usual, they will be migrated to the TDB after the tournament is over and final stats are available.

EDIT: Bracket names are, as usual, courtesy of Matt Jackson and/or Matt Jackson's fault.

Columbia and NYU dropped one team each (bringing them to 2 and 1 teams, respectively). As such, the tournament is being run with 5 brackets of 5 teams for the prelims; then, a house team will be dropped, and we will rebracket into 3 brackets of 8 teams for the playoffs.

EDIT (1:32pm): Playoffs have begun; stats will begin to appear in the same directory once they begin to be posted.

EDIT (4:43pm): Packet-reading-order problems will render round reports for rounds 10-12 irrelevant.

No, Ohio State A was used as the Finals Packet. And WUSTL A was used as the replacement Round 12 for the bottom bracket.

Because the top bracket was a full round ahead of the bottom bracket at the time of the foulup, and the middle bracket was somewhere in between (and so trying to get the entire tournament back on the same packet would have been difficult), we decided to fix the problem by skipping the Maryland/UIC packet in the bottom bracket.
