ACF Fall 2015 @ Maryland (High School Mirror)

Post by sarangyeola »

I am pleased to announce the Mid-Atlantic High School Mirror for ACF Fall 2015, to be held at University of Maryland on Saturday, 7 November 2015. ACF Fall is the year's premier introductory-level collegiate quizbowl tournament, and we do hope that you join us at this event.

Information about building and start time will be posted as we near the event.
Database entry can be found here.

Registration
Registration for this event has two steps:
First, please email us [email protected] with team name, number, and buzzer/staffer information.
Second, fill out the central ACF Fall registration form at this site with all relevant information.

Fees
Base fee: $85
Buzzer systems*: -$5 each
Staffers: -$10 each No maximum.
Laptop: -$5 each Maximum 1 per team.
Travel: -$10 per 200 miles traveled one way
International**: -$20
Minimum Fee: $45

* No discount for broken buzzers; no maximum.
** For teams representing schools located in a different country than the tournament host.

UPDATE 2: ACF has changed pricing requirements for high school teams. The price has dropped from $120 to $85 per team. This will hopefully reduce the financial strain on high school teams who wish to participate.

High School Teams should not write packets for this event.

Payment
Payment for ACF Fall will be processed through the ACF treasurer, Gautam Kandlikar. He will get in touch with you about how much your team owes, how to pay for the tournament, etc. Please contact Gautam with any questions regarding payment.

Note Regarding Highschool Teams
High school teams are no longer allowed to compete in Collegiate ACF Fall events.

For more information, refer to the Global Announcement of ACF Fall 2015 or email the editors at [email protected].

We are pleased to announce that ACF Fall at Maryland has been awarded platinum certification by PACE, which means that the top 25% of the field will qualify for the 2016 PACE NSC, held on June 4–5 in Rosemont, Illinois.

Please note that November 7, the date of the tournament, is also the date that Maryland football hosts Wisconsin. Fortunately, the game is at 3:30 PM, meaning that it should not affect travel to College Park, although exiting town may be slowed somewhat. The most relevant impact the game will have on teams attending ACF Fall will concern parking, as all lots on the Maryland campus proper will be restricted or pay parking only.

In terms of parking on game days, I have had good results with lot K7/4a on Pontiac Street, which is unrestricted on weekends. After parking in that lot, one may proceed southward on Baltimore Avenue (U.S. Route 1) and enter campus through the main entrance by taking a right turn on Campus Drive, the street upon which Jimenez Hall is located. A map of this route is shown below. Note that this is not an especially short walk (1.01 miles), so teams using this option may wish to drop students and buzzers off near Jimenez before parking.

Tournament registration remains open. We hope to see you on November 7!

Thomas Jefferson A finished with a record of 11–2 and cleared the field by three games to win. Wilmington Charter A and Dorman tied for second. Thanks to everyone for coming, thanks to the editors for putting together an enjoyable set, and thanks in particular to Chris Heffner, Raynell Cooper, and Dennis Loo for staffing. Stats will be up soon.
