Tri-State Tussle 3 @ Del. Valley HS, Milford PA (10/14/17)

We are happy to announce the third-annual Tri-State Tussle (TST3) on October 14, 2017 at Delaware Valley High School in Milford, PA, which is just off Interstate 84, exit 53 in PA (GPS coordinates N 41° 20.992 W 074° 44.333). Our first two events were a lot of fun and ran very well, and we're confident you're going to have a great time at this early-season tournament.

TST3 will be using an NAQT IS set as we have in past TSTs; this year’s set will be IS-168. Standard rules will be in effect (powers, negs, etc., with sudden death overtime) with ACF timing (five seconds for everything). We have a soft cap of 24 teams but may possibly add space to a hard cap of 30 teams if we have enough qualified staffers and buzzers. Teams registering after we reach 24 will be added to our wait list.

Formatting will be standard: round robin in the morning, with rebracketing and a round robin in the afternoon. A final/advantaged final will be played as necessary, with trophies for top teams and book prizes for top scorers.

Base fee will be $85 (second and subsequent teams from same school $70), with the following discounts applied, one each per school:
*Fully functioning buzzer: -$5/buzzer system
*Fully functioning moderator: -$10/moderator with pyramidal quiz bowl experience
*Teams coming from more than 150 miles (determined by Google Maps): -$10
*New to pyramidal quizbowl (your school has not played a pyramidal tournament since September 1, 2015, please verify with us): -$20

As a fundraiser for another group (and for logistical simplicity), we will offer a pizza lunch for sale on site, as we did last year. Prices will be announced when available.

Registration will be open at 8am just inside the DVHS 11/12 entrance. Teams ordering pizzas for lunch will be able to pay for them at that time also. All teams' coaches and players should be on site at 8:30am at the latest.

Note: there are a few fast-food options available off campus. If you choose to use this option for lunch, please notify us that you’re doing so. In the best interest of the tournament’s goal to finish in a timely manner, we will expect everyone to be at the specified location on time. We will be reading questions to whomever is in place at the time we announce.

The Delaware Valley School Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) organization will be selling pizza, drinks and snacks. They would like to get orders by October 6 and pay upon arrival at the competition. The tentative costs of the items are:
Plain large pizza pie - $15.00
Pepperoni large pizza pie - $20.00
2-liter bottle of soda - $2.00
Flavors include: Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sprite, Root Beer
Bottles of water - $1.00

Cups of soda, water and assorted snacks will be available throughout the competition for 50 cents.

Since they're selling two different kinds of pizza which was not included in the form I'll be in touch shortly with teams who have stated their plan to have pizzas delivered to the competition site to find out what kind of pizza they want.

Hope all of you are excited for Tri-State Tussle III tomorrow. Please aim to arrive by 8:15am tomorrow morning.

Since it may affect some of you, please note the post this morning that I-476 is going to be closed all weekend north of Highway 22 (that's the Lehigh Valley/Allentown) exit. The detour runs 22 to PA 33, which is a major route to DV. Since some traffic from the NE extension of the turnpike might add to the traffic on routes 22 and 33, you might want to plan extra time to make it to DV.

Results: Lehigh Valley defeated Delaware Valley A 530 to 190 in the first game of an advantaged final to win Tri-State Tussle III at Delaware Valley on Saturday. Alex Schmidt went 8-7-0 in the final. Ithaca A and Downingtown STEM A finished 3rd and 4th respectively, with those four earning HSNCT bids. Troy (NY) and Penn Manor finished 5th and 6th, rounding out the championship bracket.
