Chuck Berry Memorial Tournament: A Rock Tournament
Chuck Berry Memorial Tournament: A Rock Tournament
Inspired by the excellent Fight the Power hip-hop tournament and fueled by my developing addiction to writing trash, I am announcing the Chuck Berry Memorial rock music tournament.
The tentative distribution is as follows:
1 1950-1959
3 1960-1969
3 1970-1979
3 1980-1989
3 1990-1999
3 2000-2017
4 common link tossups from across the decades, culture, or additional questions from the decades
0 tossups on the Lumineers
Similar to Fight the Power (which can be found here: http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... 19&t=18915), there will be 20 tossups per round, with powers and super powers. Many questions will not fit squarely into a time period. A mix between independent and alternative critical favourites and classic rock radio staples will be attempted.
The packets well be available sometime in the summer, ideally for a Canadian site and for other Side Event weekends. I am aiming to produce 8 packets.
EDIT: I have packetized 7 packets with a few questions left over for tiebreakers if necessary. This will be played the weekend of the ICT mirror in Toronto and is available for (free) mirrors that weekend or afterwards. I will wait to post the packets until after all the side event weekends.

I will be coming to Canada for some weekend of quizbowl in summer. I hope it lines up with this tournament because it sounds sick

GIven that I never used a number of questions I wrote for this:, I'd be happy to contribute any or all of the questions that weren't used at 2013 CO Trash. I've probably got enough tossups to make a 2+ packets. If you want, I could packetize what I have and send it along.

My only question: will there be questions on metal? Quizbowl seems to overlook the genre which sucks because that's all I listen to.

That would be great. I'd prefer to packetize them myself so I could get the balance I am trying for, but if you would like to play this tournament I could include your packets seperately. Send them to [email protected]Habitat_Against_Humanity wrote:GIven that I never used a number of questions I wrote for this:, I'd be happy to contribute any or all of the questions that weren't used at 2013 CO Trash. Yes, there will be. I'm not planning on a sub distribution but there will be an effort to include metal bands old and new (even if you can't use lyric clues for Norwegian black metal!).Progcon wrote:My only question: will there be questions on metal? Given the set's namesake, I'd prefer a larger '50s distribution, but still

The Canada site will have to depend on the event it is attached to. I think for other sites doubles or full teams would both be suitable.JakobeanEra wrote:Will this be singles, doubles, or a full-team event?

An update: this event is over 50% done for my 8 pack target and may be longer if I find the time to write additional packets. This will likely be played at the Second Summer Open side event weekend in Ontario.

I have material for 7 packets as of now, so I can say that this will be ready for the tentative MacVanity weekend of June 24 (http://www.hsquizbowl.org/forums/viewto ... =8&t=19881). I have updated the distribution listed in the first post, but I may change it later. I will edit them after the weekend and they will be available for mirrors shortly after.

Sorry, I had neglected to announce here the change of plans. This is going to be played at the ICT Mirror in Toronto on the July 29th weekend. There are 7 packets.Cheynem wrote:Did this get played? How many packets were there?
Now that I have finalized the date this set is open to free mirrors on the July 29th weekend or later. Email me at [email protected] if you wish to mirror this event. I am delaying uploading the packets to the archive because of this.

Any chance of running this earlier than 8 pm EST? That's like 2 am over here so it'd be almost impossible for me to play then. I'm fine with staying up and not using a mic to not bother the other people in my apartment.ErikC wrote:To gauge interest in a discord mirror, anyone who would play please fill out this poll so I could pick the best time.

Two questions:
1. I'm assuming 8PM Eastern time, correct?
