Delta Burke 2017 at Northwestern (11/18/17)
Northwestern University's quizbowl team is pleased to announce a mirror for the 2017 edition of Delta Burke, a college-level tournament written by Valencia College. The tournament will take place on November 18, 2017, on Northwestern's Evanston campus. I'll be serving as tournament director.
As in past iterations, this year's Delta Burke is targeted at newer collegiate players. The distribution is a relatively standard one for the collegiate game (1/1 trash; 4/4 of each of the "big three") and can be found at the post linked above.
Location and parking: The tourney will almost certainly take place in the shiny, new-ish Kresge Hall, found at 1880 Campus Drive, Evanston, IL. The parking structure at 1 Arts Circle Drive is a matter of feet from Kresge and is your best bet--it does not require a permit on Saturdays.
Eligibility: Any team composed of undergraduate students who attend the same institution may play this tournament. No high school teams and no mixed/open teams will be allowed; graduate students wishing to play should email me and will have their eligibility determined on a case-by-case basis.
Fee structure:
The fee structure is as follows:
$90 per team base fee
-$5/each for buzzer systems with 8 or more functioning buzzers. If it doesn't have 8 working, it doesn't get you a discount.
-$10/each for competent staffers provided; we reserve the right to turn down staffers in advance if we don't need them.
-$10 for any teams that travel >200 miles each way to the tourney site, as determined by Google Maps.
For the record, the discounts are all by school, not by team.
All teams must pay on the day of the tournament. We accept cash or checks (made out to "Northwestern University"). If it's much more convenient for you to mail a check in advance, send us an email and we'll work something out.
Registration:
To register, email quizbowl AT u DOT northwestern DOT edu, stating the number of teams, buzzers, and staffers that you're registering.
As of right now, the field cap has expanded to 16 teams. This isn't going to be able to increase unless we have an absolute explosion of interest; as a result, any school looking to register teams past the third will have their D, E, etc. team(s) put on a waitlist until November 4th.
Current Field (12):
Chicago x3 (2 buzzers, 0 staff)
DePaul x1 (0 buzzers, 0 staff)
UIUC x2 (4 buzzers, 0 staff)
Loyola x2 (0 buzzers, 0 staff)
Michigan x2 (3 buzzers, 0 staff)
Northwestern x2

Is this field still current, or has it enlarged?

The only difference is the presence of house teams to get us to a manageable twelve. Updated.CPiGuy wrote:Is this field still current, or has it enlarged?

The stats in Marianna's post above are complete. Chicago A won the tournament in a close final over Chicago B, who had defeated Illinois A in the previous game.
I'd like to thank everyone for coming out today - but extra thanks to the staffers: Samir Khan, Ryan Rosenberg, Adam Sperber, Jessica Sweeney, and Marianna Zhang. This tournament could not have happened without them.

This tournament was well-run and a good time. It was especially useful for helping our new players get more experience on difficulty-appropriate questions. Thanks to everyone who helped to put it on, and thanks to the other teams who played.

A private discussion forum has been set up to accept your thoughtful commentary on (or vitriolic hatred of) the DB set. I hope you'll sign up and let me know what you liked and disliked about the questions.
