WAO II@ The Internet

Post by A Dim-Witted Saboteur »

This thread, for now, is to assess interest for a skype mirror of WAO II to be held probably in February after the Stanford mirror happens. For now, we're looking at doing this two weeks after Regs but are not married to the date. HS teams would be allowed, as would open teams (with an increased fee to account for the fact that the deadline on packet submission elapsed a long time ago). Would anyone be interested in this?

I would be interested in this. I'd prefer for it to be on a Sunday.

Here's a signup sheet solely to gauge interest. Fees will be $100 per team; $60 if the team is 1 or 2 people.
Date will most likely be Jan 28 or Feb 4, but could be later if people want it to.

I'd be interested, time and cost permitting.

Edit: If time permits but cost doesn't I'd also be open to reading instead :P

Just a quick note about this: since Jakob and I are reading for this, and we don't anticipate a ton of teams, I do not think we need any additional staffers at this time. We appreciate those who have graciously volunteered, but I believe firmly in compensating those who read for Skype tournaments, and we don't want to ask people to give their time for free or if they are not needed.

Also, please sign up for this if you are interested ASAP. We would like to pick a date soon.

This will be happening February 4 if we get enough people for four teams; otherwise this'll just be doubles.

This Sunday would be better for me also. Next Sunday it would depend on what time I get back from SCT.

If the date was moved to this Sunday, I probably wouldn't be able to play.

Yeah sorry; I'm kind of loath to move the date this late in the process. Enjoy said family thing!

This is next Sunday February 4th. I'd be pretty pleased with a 4 team tripple round robin (9 games). Please put in your Skype username if you haven't yet and please add me on Skype. I don't think there are many West Coast people playing this mirror, so I'd like to get the show on the road at 10 am EST. I think I will make a Discord (if I can figure out how to do that) so that teams can talk to each other about when rounds ends, skype issues, etc. If I can't get a Discord going, I'll just a make an IRC chat. This tournament should go swimmingly and I'd like to be done by about 6 pm EST so people can, like, watch the Super Bowl and stuff.

It looks like the rosters have changed a bit. That's OK... but when will I know what our share out the cost is and whom to pay it to?

Jakob and I agreed to change this to 25 dollars per player in light of the unfortunate drops. I'd prefer if teams and players mail checks to my apartment so they should email me for my address. If check is not an option, they can Venmo me the money, but I'd rather have players pay by check. I really do not want to hunt players down for money, so please try to get my mailing info ASAP.

You can shift me if you want. Based on the UMD CMST thread, it appears that Michael and I overlap quite a bit anyway.

Edit: Harris, is it okay if I Paypal you the money? I only have Canadian cheques and we don't have Venmo up here.

Before anyone else drops... should we start asking around? Most HS kids won't see this unless we prompt them.

Feel free to Paypal me if the fees are low. If not, you can pay me in cash at like Nats or something.

Please ask around for players but I am going to cap the field at 4 teams.

Awesome! I don't think there are any fees for you when I send from a Canadian account to a US one (the one I pay is pretty negligible iirc).

This happened. Thanks to all who came out. Team Chloe (Alex, Matt and Michael) won at 4-2 and we stopped after 7 rounds as people wanted to watch Super Bowl. We may read some more of the set later on Discord so keep an eye out for that. If you haven't payed me, please contact me ASAP.
