Northeastern University Novice Tournament

Post by Remijg »

Hi,

Northeastern is hosting a novice tournament this weekend on February 17th. We know this is last minute so we won't be charging a lot of money to attend.

Fees:

Our base fee will be $40.
-$5 per buzzer set
-$5 per staffer
Minimum fee is $25.

For inquiries and to register, please email [email protected]. We will provide more information to the teams that sign up!

Thanks!

Looks like IS-174, based on NAQT's website.

Just want to note that Bowdoin would be interested in fielding 1-2 teams for this tournament if it gets rescheduled to, say, March 3 or April or some date we actually have time to plan for. Maybe you can afford to announce less than 100 hours in advance when you have several Harvard, MIT, Tufts, etc inside a 30-minute radius, but its really disappointing to us up here.

Can high school students participate, seeing as it is an IS set?

I'd advise you all at Northeastern to hold off on hosting this. You can't really expect people to put together teams for a tournament on this short of notice; any potential impact of drawing in new players is negated by the minimal time for teams to advertise it; holding novice tournaments on sets designed for high schoolers doesn't really do much to prepare players for collegiate sets; and with your lack of experience hosting, you may not be prepared to host a tournament, especially without knowing how much staff you need less than four days before it.

This would be a bad idea, since the idea of novice college tournaments is to appeal to novice college players.
