All-World Predictions

Post by AGoodMan »

What are people's HSQB All-World predictions for this year? For me, in no particular order, here are some players that come to mind:

Jack Lewis (Battle Ground Academy)
Tora Husar (Wayzata)
Joe Kammann (Wayzata)
Hari Parameswaran (Beavercreek)
Robert Crawford (DCC)
Clark Smith (Dublin Scioto)
William Golden (Katy E. Taylor)
Jeffery Qiu (CCA)
Rohan Hegde (TJ)
Grant Li (TJ)
Justin French (Crystal Springs Uplands)
Vishwa Shanmugam (Downingtown STEM)
Chinmay Murthy (LASA)
Ethan Strombeck (Auburn)
Gram Brinson (DeBakey)
Daniel Ma (Hunter)
Chloe Levine (Hunter)
Shomik Ghose (St. John’s)
Eshaan Vakil (Ed Clark)
Ethan Skinner (Davis)
Daniel Wang (CCA)
Alistair Gray (Guilder)
Thomas Freedman (Torrey Pines)
Alex Donovan (MICDS)
Doug Simons (High Tech)
William Gentry (St. Joseph)
John John Groger (Miami Valley)
Jakob Boeye (Centennial)
Adam Howlett (Richard Montgomery)
Alex Hu (Richard Montgomery)
Ben Miller (Montgomery Blair)
Alex Schmidt (Lehigh Valley)

Again, this is just fun speculation and there is no way I know everyone in HS quiz bowl. Curious to know what people think though.

Just noting, I think Alex Schmidt (LVA) is a really really big miss after being a first team member last year and staying roughly on par this year. I'm not sure how the teams weight generalists vs. specialists, but I also think Geoffrey Chen (Wayzata) is worth looking at, because he has had really good stats for being a single subject specialist. That said, I think this is a really cool list. so thanks for making it (and including me!))

Edit: I also think there are a number of very consistent Northeastern generalists who deserve consideration; naming a few off the top of my head, Max Shatan (Bard) Julia Tong (Darien) Sam Scarfone (Great Valley) and the Alagars (Alagar Homeschool)

I'm biased of course, but I think Hanson Hao of IMSA is certainly worthy of consideration. I also think at least one player from Stevenson could make the cut, despite their balanced scoring.

Sarod Nori from Okemos should definitely be up there. I'd also say William Groger from Miami Valley as well because he's been pretty consistent and has a good rhythm with his brother.

Interesting to note that over the past three years, a large majority the top 40 teams in the pre-nats rankings have had players among the 40 recognized to the all-world list. 27 of the top 40 teams were represented in the all-worlds in 2014-2015, followed by 31 and 32 in the years since then. The original post on this thread only had 21 of the top 40 teams represented, so it seems likely this number will increase as other teams in this echelon have their strongest players receive recognition. This is merely speculative, though, and there is still opportunity for lots of movement in the national rankings. Other than that, Tejas Santanam (Guilford) and Anson Berns (Blair) come to mind as some probable candidates who weren't mentioned above.

In the Southeast, Kevin Huang of Chattahoochee and Jack Lewis (Battle Ground Academy) should definitely be considered. Chandler Parks and William Richey from Dorman are pretty good as well.

It should be at the end of May if it follows the same release dates as last year.

Is there a minimum number of games played to be considered? (Or is attendance considered, in general?)
Thinking about my unique circumstance of injury...

Fred, quick question: how much are playoff stats considered for All-World team placement? Are they considered any differently than prelim stats?

Not really per se. I look at a team's best performances, and I'd expect Hunter's numbers to get even better with you playing.

They're made after IIRC.

Nah, they're the same.
