Livingston HS March Madness 2018 (NAQT IS-174) - March 17, 2018

Hello everyone! Happy New Year!

I am pleased to announce that Livingston HS, in Livingston, NJ, will be hosting its annual tournament - this year on Saturday, March 17, 2018.

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/4800/

SET: We are going to be using NAQT set IS-174.

TEAMS: We can physically host up to 48 teams. However, we are going to have a soft cap at 36 teams and, if sufficient demand warrants and we are able to secure sufficient readers and buzzers, will up the number of teams to 42 with a hard cap of 48 teams. Initially, I will take a cap of 3 teams per school and, by February 14, approximately one month before the tournament, will put all additional teams per school into the field. For the moment, all teams beyond 3 from a single school will be put on the wait list.

ROUNDS: We are planning on a round robin of preliminary rounds (depending on number of teams) followed by lunch and then playoffs to follow. We aim to let each team have at least 10 rounds.

START TIME: Check in/registration between 8 - 8:30 with a moderator meeting at 8:30 and a welcome at 8:45 with round 1 to start at 9:00. We aim to be done with the tournament between 5:00 - 6:00.

FOOD: A great, high quality bagel (with butter and cream cheese) and orange juice breakfast will be provided free of charge. We will be selling pizzas in the morning (order them that morning upon arriving to check in) at approximately $12 per pie (please bring cash and as close to exact change as possible), as well as selling slices, waters, sodas, DELICIOUS homemade baked goods, and other food/snacks throughout the day, most all of which will cost $1 each. This is our team fundraiser so we would appreciate your support!

FEES:
$80 for the first team
$70 for each additional team from the same school
Discounts of $10 for each EXPERIENCED moderator (as needed) and $5 for each buzzer set (as needed)
Max discount of $20 per school

HOW TO REGISTER: Registration will constitute a TEAM COACH/ADVISOR filling out the following Google Form:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PQDVt ... HvHJZnOeUw

This confirms your attendance and registration as well as how many (if any) buzzer systems and/or moderators you will be able to bring. Our email is [email protected] which you can use for any further inquiries. Information/field updates will also be posted and updated on this hsquizbowl.org forum here so please check/monitor this. Please understand that posting on the forum does not constitute officially registering nor any official communication with the team. Email is the best way to communicate any possible concerns or questions.

PAYMENT: Please make all checks out to "Livingston High School" and either bring with you to the tournament or mail to the below address at my (Guy Rabner) attention. Please try to make sure that payment is in by tournament time. If you require a pre-tournament invoice in order to have a check cut, please let us know ASAP or by March 3, so that we can send you the invoice in sufficient time.

Livingston High School is located at 30 Robert H. Harp Drive, Livingston, NJ 07039-2634. We're close to major interstates and only a 1/2 hour drive to Manhattan.

Looking forward to seeing you in March! Wish for no snow and nice weather, and an easy winter!

Hi all,

With approximately 6 weeks left before our tournament, we are very close to our initial cut off point of 36 teams (we're at 34 teams).

As I said in the details above, we have the capacity to host up to 48 teams at our school, depending on buzzer, moderator and other space resources available to us. Please feel free and continue to register and if and when we reach 42 teams, and then 48 teams, we will take other teams off the wait list that we initially put on it.

As we want to assure that all teams that actually are registered are committed to coming, we ask that all teams that are currently on the above field list double check and confirm with their players that they are committed to attending, as to avoid any teams that do not get in the field and would come be needlessly left out. Thank you!

Thank you to the hosts of Rutgers and East Brunswick for hosting some great tournaments the past two weeks in the NY/NJ/PA area. We hope that we are as successful as you were! We look forward to attending Princeton and High Tech in the coming weeks and we suggest, if you haven't and are in the area, that you register for their tournaments. High Tech, in addition to having great teams, run a great tournament every year and Princeton HS is a great new addition to the circuit.

With less than 4 weeks left before our tournament, we have reached the 42 team cap, with 4 teams on the wait list. (See above post for current field) With 2 more teams, we will reach our 48 team hard cap and will let those teams on the wait list into the tournament field, as we will also with any drops that may occur.

Please sign up for those last 2 spots if you are so inclined and, for those teams already in the tournament, please check the information I have for you above and make sure it is correct and that you are confirmed. I will be sending a confirmation email out to your coach/captain/representative as well.

We are looking forward to hosting our tournament once again on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day this year!

With 3 weeks remaining we have reached our 48 team max cap with a spectacular field of 26 schools (or other entities). Please see updated field post above this. I honestly cannot recall a field this large (outside on a much larger Nationals) in my 20 or so years of coaching. This should be an excellent, exciting tournament with most of the best teams from the greater NYC and Philadelphia metropolitan area. We are looking forward to hosting!

Any school that registers now will be placed on the wait list pending any drops and/or changes.

All competitors, please check to make sure the information is accurate and that there are no changes to your information. Updated emails will be sent in the 10 days or so prior to the tournament. Thank you!

Hello, just a heads up; our team name is Downingtown STEM (with a second w). I wanted to post this publicly because we've been listed as "Downington" at several other NJ tournaments, and we want to make sure it doesn't affect people's ability to look up our stats or anything of that sort, both at this tournament and at future events.

Thanks for putting us in the field, and we're very excited for the tournament!

After a lot of last minute juggling around dropped teams, buzzers, moderators, we seem to be set for tomorrow with a full 48-team bracket. Stats tomorrow morning will be posted here: http://tinyurl.com/livingstonqb2018. See you all in the morning! Drive safely!

Thank you to all teams, coaches, parents, moderators and scorers who came today to have fun and compete in March Madness 2018 at Livingston HS. We hope you found the tournament well run, fun and a challenging way to spend your Saturday. We would be happy to hear and positive or negative feedback from those who attended so we can aim to make this even better next year. 48 teams were a lot to handle but your good play, patience with us and teamwork helped things go relatively smoothly with all crossovers done by 5:15... no easy task.

Final stats can be found on the link in the previous post and congratulations to High Technology HS for a great final game to beat what seemed like an unbeatable Hunter A team. Congratulations also to Lehigh Valley, Downingtown STEM, Hunter B, Millburn and Bard for qualifying for NAQT Nationals. There truly was some exceptional quiz bowl played today with some of the best teams in the area and even nation showing their incredible depth and breadth of knowledge.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and school year and we hope to see you all back next year!

Congratulations, High Tech, And A Very Good Job.
Regarding the tournament itself, it was very excellent in timing and not running late, especially considering the size of the field!
