NASAT Mirroring Thread: List of Dates

Post by AKKOLADE »

This is a public request for mirrors, and a list of information of arranged mirrors, of this year's National All-Star Academic Tournament. The full announcement for the main site is up here.

I would prefer that mirrors be held the weekend of June 23-24, though holding them later is plausible. The set will not be available for mirroring until the weekend of the 23rd and 24th.

Pertinent information:
  • The entry fee will be $40 per team.
  • Eric "Got My Name Back" Mukherjee will be the chief editor.
  • As stated in the main site announcement: "Because this event will be played by highly skilled all-star teams, the question difficulty will be higher than that used at existing national championships such as the NSC and HSNCT. The style and subject distribution of the questions will be quite similar to existing “modified ACF” sets, such as the sets HSAPQ wrote in the past."
  • That roughly comes out to ACF Regionals difficulty, minus some subjects like organic chemistry that aren't high school appropriate.
To request becoming a mirror site, please email me at [email protected]. I'd be happy to answer any questions there or in this thread.

I'm happy to announce our first two mirrors of NASAT this summer: at McMaster on 6/23 and 6/24 and at Valencia on, likely, 8/19.

Are college mirrors intended to be closed, or can they be open?

They can be open, as long as they're announced as such and there's no double secret probation, cool kid-only open teams.

I am guessing (?) the idea is if you're doing an open tournament (which, frankly, aside from the main event, they all should be since this is in the summer), say this is an open tournament and don't do things like "this isn't advertised as open, but we let some open teams in." Which, again, shouldn't be an issue since this is the summer.

The mirror for the Washington mirror will be on 6/30, with a thread found here.

UC San Diego will also be mirroring it on 7/7.

Are there any additional details for the McMaster mirror? I'm planning on flying into Toronto from NYC and traveling to McMaster and would like to know what time stuff starts.

It's worth noting that this is a week after another open event at Illinois.

Is there any interest for a Northeast mirror, or one over Skype? I'm interested in playing this.

Sorry, I never got back to this. Are you suggesting that these two events would be too close together?

Maybe? I don't have a real job or anything, so it's tough to me to gauge, but it seems like a lot of people would go to both. If this is what works for the majority of interested parties, that's great!

The NASAT mirror at Valencia will be held on Saturday, August 18, on our West Campus. Thanks to Fred for letting us mirror so late. I'll put up an announcement soon. Most of our participants don't visit these forums, but we'd be happy if some of y'all would like to travel to sweltering Orlando in August.

Thanks to everyone that played NASAT at one of our mirror or at the main site. I've emailed the packets to Jeff Hill to upload; once they're up, I'll post in this thread.
