2018 ACF Fall @ Georgia Tech (Nov 3rd)

Post by JKHtay »

I am pleased to announce the South Central site of ACF Fall 2018, to be held at the Georgia Institute of Technology on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. We will be hosting the tournament in Howey and will start at 9am.

Registration
Registration for this event has two steps:
First, please write to us at [email protected] with team name, number, and buzzer/staffer information.
Second, fill out the central ACF Fall registration form with all relevant information here.

Fees
Base fee: $135
Buzzer: -$5/functional system
Staffers: -$10/staffer
Shorthanded fee (teams of 1 or 2 players): $60
"New to Quizbowl" discount: $100

We will also like teams to consider whether or not they would pay some extra (in the range of $20/team) to offset the cleaning fees so we can move the tournament to Saturday, November 3rd. Please let me know in your email if you would be willing to do this.

Packet Discounts/Penalties
Any team with at least one person on it who played a regular, collegiate, academic quizbowl tournament prior to September 1, 2017 is required to submit a packet, unless it is a high school team.

Half-packet templates will be sent out to your team after you have submitted the registration form. If you have questions on the submission guidelines, email them to [email protected] and they'll clarify.

Please submit packets to [email protected] and use “ACF Fall 2018: [Team Name]” in the subject line.

Submission schedule
September 8: -$30
September 22: -$15 (-$30 if optional)
October 6: no penalty (-$15 if optional)
October 13: +$25
October 20: +$50
Packets submitted later than October 20 will receive an additional penalty.

Note Regarding Highschool Teams
High school teams are not allowed to register for this mirror of ACF Fall.

Field
The field is capped at 16 teams, pending staffer availability.

For more information, consult the global announcement or email the editors at [email protected]

Hello all,

Here is the logistics email for Georgia Tech's ACF Fall mirror, to be held on 11/3.

Field (teams/buzzers/staffers):
Georgia Tech: (3/1/?)
Auburn: (2/1/0)
Georgia: (5/2/0)
Emory: (2/0/1)
Charleston: (1/1/0)
Alabama: (1/1/0)

The current plan 14 teams split into two groups of 7, with top 3 from each group playing a playoffs round robin and bottom four playing the other bottom four teams from the other group. This may change if more teams from the Tusculum site come to our mirror.

Please arrive at the Howey Physics Building, 837 State St NW, Atlanta, GA 30332, by 8:45 AM on 11/3. We will aim to start the tournament at 9:00. Since this will not be a home game (I checked this time!), visitor parking is available in Visitor Parking Area 4 on this map, which is conveniently located in front of Howey. We will meet in Lecture Hall 3.

Lunch will be after round 7: the closest food places are either at Tech Square, roughly a 10 minute walk away, or the Chik-Fil-A at the Student Center.

Please bring payment the day of the tournament, either in the form of cash or a check made out to "Georgia Tech Academic Quizbowl Team". The payment scheme is on the forum post: if you need an invoice or receipt, please let me know if you have not already received one.

We will be using PDF packets and paper scoresheets. Please have your moderator bring a laptop if you have signed up to bring one.

If you have questions, please free to email me.

Thanks,

Justin Htay

Hello all,

An update on the field:

Field (teams/buzzers/staffers):
Georgia Tech: (3/1/?)
Auburn: (2/1/0)
Georgia: (5/2/0)
Emory: (2/0/1)
Charleston: (1/1/0)
Alabama: (1/1/0)
Vanderbilt (2/2/0)
South Carolina (2/1/2)

Please make sure that the information listed above is correct. We will be playing a 9/9 preliminary round robin, then doing top 3/mid 3/bot 3 crossover. Please make sure to arrive early (by 8:45 AM) so we can start the tournament as soon as possible. We will have lunch after Round 6 or 7.

If you need an updated invoice or have any questions, please let me know.

Thanks,
Justin Htay

This tournament happened! Georgia Tech A won both games of an advantaged final to defeat Georgia A to win the tournament. Vanderbilt B claimed third place and took the Division II title as the only DII team to make the top bracket. Prelim stats have been uploaded, and complete stats will be posted by tomorrow. Thanks to Casey Bindas, Sudheer Potru, Kailyn LaPorte, Valerie Ogonor, and Aditi Choudhury for volunteering to staff!
