ACF Fall at Toronto (November 3rd, 2018)

Post by everdiso »

The University of Toronto is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a mirror of ACF Fall on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. More information about the tournament can be found in the global announcement. On the Sunday following the tournament, we will be hosting No Banter, Please, a Canadian-written trash tournament.

Logistics

The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 3rd. It will take place on the second floor of Sidney Smith Hall, on the west side of St. George Street slightly south of Harbord, about a 5-minute walk south from St. George subway station. Control will be room 2127, so please head there upon arriving. Note that the tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp, so all players should be in the control room by 9:45. If you are at all late, the tournament will still start at 10:00 without you.

Prices and Payment

Base fee: $135
Buzzer discount: $5 per functioning system
Staffer discount: $10 per capable staffer with laptop
"New to Quizbowl" discount: $100
Shorthanded fee (teams of 1 or 2 players): $60
Penalty: $10 will be added to your fee per buzzer set or staffer that you sign up to bring but show up without. This will not apply if you let me know beforehand (this does not mean the morning of or night before) that you won't be bringing them, or if there's a legitimate reason (e.g. the would-be staffer is sick).

In addition, staffers will get a free lunch up to $15 as long as they show up on time to start round 1 at 10:00 and the first round after lunch at the time it is set for.

Payment will be accepted in etransfer to [email protected], cash or cheque made out to "University of Toronto Academic Trivia Club".

Registration

To register, message me on Facebook or email me at either [email protected] or [email protected]. Include your school name, the number of teams and any discounts you might qualify for in the email or message. In addition, your school will need to fill out ACF's form to let them know what teams they'll be sending. The registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 28th.

Apologies for the lateness of this announcement; ACF was, shockingly, difficult to communicate with. Comment in this thread, message me or email me if you have any questions. I hope to see many of you there!

Hi,everyone! This is the logistics post for tomorrow's tournament.

The tournament will be held at Sidney Smith Hall, on the west side of St. George Street slightly south of Harbord, about a 5-minute walk south from St. George subway station. The tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. sharp. Arrive by 9:40 to set up. This is a later-than-usual start time, so please do not be late for it. 2127 will be the control room, so you may leave your things there, and then please proceed to your first game room (you have all been sent the schedule).

Anyone who has not yet paid me can pay me in the control room in the morning. If you are paying me by cash on site, PLEASE ARRIVE BY 9:30 so we can get it sorted out quickly. In addition, to all those bringing buzzers, please arrive by 9:40 to set them up. I will message you which rooms to put your buzzer sets in.

Everyone please arrive on time. If players are late either for round 1 or for the first round after lunch, we will start without you. If staffers are late either for round 1 or for the first round after lunch, you will forfeit your $15 of lunch money (which will be sent out via e-transfer after the tournament).

Please note that the yellow line will be closed from Lawrence to St. Clair on Saturday and Sunday. In addition, the Gardiner Expressway will be closed all weekend (sadly, not forever). If either of these closures affect you, please plan your travel accordingly.

I look forward to seeing you all Saturday!
