Allderdice Invitational V (1/26/19) [NAQT IS-180A]

Post by JDeslouches1 »

Allderdice Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce our 5th annual high school quiz bowl tournament. The tournament will be hosted at Taylor Allderdice High School in Pittsburgh, PA on Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 9:00 AM to roughly 5:00 PM. Registration will run from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM, so teams should arrive by 8:30 at the latest. A more specific schedule will be distributed to coaches and players at the tournament. The top 15% of teams from the field will qualify for the 2019 High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 24-26, 2019.

Questions & Format:
This tournament will be using NAQT set IS-180A. Any team that has previously played IS-180A is ineligible for this event. This event will use timed rounds of 10 minute halves and will include computational math (Tossups & Bonuses).

There is a soft cap of 24 teams with the potential to expand the field pending staff availability. Teams will be grouped into separate brackets for morning gameplay, then re-bracketed into upper, consolation, and lower consolation brackets depending on their morning performance. All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 10 games and prizes will be awarded to top teams and players.

Registration & Fees:
In order to register, email the tournament director Leo Sweeney at [email protected] specifying the number of teams and buzzers you are planning on bringing. Additionally, please include rosters listing each player's full name on each team in your registration email. Once the field cap is reached, any additional teams will be placed on a waitlist until the field is expanded.

Base Fee:
+$70 to your school's total fee for the first team registered
+$60 to your school's total fee for each additional team registered

Buzzer Discount: -$10 to your school's total fee for each fully functional buzzer system. A fully functional buzzer system must indicate which player has buzzed, and have at least 8 fully functioning parts.

Staff Discount: -$10 to your school's total fee for each experienced staffer. Staffers will be expected to moderate and keep score. All staffers interested in moderating will be used at the discretion of the tournament director.

New Team Discount: -$30 for each time from a school that has not played a weekend pyramidal quizbowl tournament since September 1st, 2015.

Payment:
Payment must be received by the day of the tournament in the form of cash, personal checks, and checks from the school. All checks can be made out to "Allderdice Quiz Bowl". Invoices will be provided to schools upon request. Our mailing address is 2409 Shady Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.

Food:
There are several eating options located nearby Allderdice, particularly on Forbes Ave, Murray Ave, and Forward Ave. We will be selling snacks at the school as well.

We hope to see you at Allderdice on January 26th!!!!

Field Update as of 1/2/19:

North Catholic 2/1/0
Bishop Canevin 1/0/0
South Side 2/0/0
Hampton 4/0/0
Shadyside 2/1/0
Winchester 2/1/0
Chartiers Valley 1/1/0
Allderdice 4/1/0
Sharpsville 2/0/0
Morgantown 2/0/0
Central Catholic 1/0/0

Totals : 23/5/0

This means that we have spot for one more team to register, and then we will open a waitlist. Also, as you can see, we are low on available buzzer systems (we need at least 12). If any team has any potential extras available, please let me know. For every buzzer system a school brings, there we will be a $10 reduction in your tournament fee.

We look forward to seeing you the 26th!
