Stairway to Heaven vs. Born to Run

Stairway to Heaven is not the best song of the 70s. It's not even the best Led Zeppelin song of the 70s. You morons.

I"m chrome wheeled, fuel injected and steppin' out over the line.

I'm gonna have to go out and find 15 people who haven't been part of this bracket to come in and vote for Bruce in a callback to Fred's fantastic basketball survivor bracket.

Stairway to Heaven vs. Born to Run

I'd vote for When The Levee Breaks over Born to Run, but then again I'd vote for Thunder Road or Jungleland or maybe Backstreets over everything on Led Zeppelin IV.

Stairway to Heaven vs. Born to Run

Stairway to Heaven may not be the best Led Zeppelin song, but it's not like Born to Run is the best Springsteen song either.

EDIT: not trying to insult Fred's picks (these are obviously super popular and well-regarded songs for both artists), just a matter of personal preference

No offense taken. The only things I've really rolled my eyes at are takes along the lines of ""Bohemian Rhapsody" isn't the best song of the 70s for Queen; it's actually "Tie Your Mother Down"!"

Stairway to Heaven - Zeppelin owned the 70s hard rock scene, so even one of their lesser smashes can win. The Dross is a terrible musician who generally writes emetic tripe. Born to Run is one of the approximately two good songs he sang. It’s still not good enough to win.

Also, I've started working on the 80s bracket. I'm not going through as many songs for this one as I did for the 70s bracket, but there's still approximately 1500 songs to listen to which are ranked by Acclaimed Music.

Stairway to Heaven vs. Born to Run

I never post on these things, but I can't allow Zeppelin to win. When I was a dorm DJ in the 80s, my partner ended every show with Stairway to Heaven, and I grew to hate hate hate it.

Stairway to Heaven vs. Born to Run

Bruce is miles above Led Zeppelin as a lyricist. Anyways, here's some reminiscence about how we got to this place:

Mik's Top Five:
Superstition
Bohemian Rhapsody
Just What I Needed
No Woman No Cry (Live)
War Pigs

Horizon Expanders (Songs I liked, but had never heard before):
The Letter
25 or 6 to 4
Lawyers, Guns, and Money
Ain't No Sunshine
Drift Away (this version, at least)
Flash Light
Midnight Train to Georgia
Cruel to be Kind
Ain't No Love (In the Heart of the City)

Broken Mirages (Songs I liked less after listening to them intently)
What's Going On
Riders on the Storm
London Calling
Moondance
I Will Survive (twice as long as it has material for)

Shrugs (New, but didn't like at all - or don't even remember listening to...that said, this was months ago for first-round matchups)
Radio Radio
Tears of a Clown
Marquee Moon
I'm Your Captain
Doctor My Eyes
I'll Be Around
Mr. Blue Sky
Pink Moon
I Saw the Light

As always, many thanks to Fred for putting up with a tremendous (if self-imposed) slog in setting this whole thing up!
