(British) Spring Novice at York 11th Mar 2023

Post by Fisher »

I am very excited to announce that York University, UK will be hosting "Spring Novice", their first quizbowl tournament on Saturday 11th March 2023. The set will be a Briticised version of Canadian Novice. Myself and Thomas Hart (Warwick) are editing the Briticisation of questions with a team of British writers contributing questions. We would like to thank Ben Chapman and the rest of the Canadian Novice setting team for their permission for us to adapt their tournament for our audience.

As for Canadian Novice, the set will be 12 packets of 24 tossups and 24 bonuses, plus tiebreakers. However, the distribution of questions will be as follows to reflect the greater focus on British content.

The in-person tournament has finished, with York A and Durham finishing top of the standings of the 10 team round robin. As we knew the building had to close at 5pm, we have scheduled the final to take place online on Zoom in a week or so's time, with the final hopefully uploaded to YouTube in the future.

Well done to all the teams, and in particular to Emma May Smith of York A who was the top individual scorer with 84.44 PPG. The full stats are now up here.

Myself and Thomas Hart (the Briticisation editors) would like to thank Ben Chapman and the rest of the Canadian Novice team for their support. They've been very helpful, friendly and punctual throughout, it has been great to work with them.
