2024 SnowCAT @ UMN (Feb. 17, 2024)

Post by shar2931 »

The University of Minnesota Quiz Bowl team is excited to announce the continuation of SnowCAT on Saturday February 17, 2024. The tournament will be held at Folwell Hall on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota campus. We ask that all teams arrive by 8:30am so that we can begin the tournament promptly by 9:00am.

This will be a regular high school tournament using NAQT Invitational Series #224. We will be playing using modified NAQT rules with major changes being that rounds are not timed (twenty tossup/bonus cycles will be read per match) and we will not be using computational math tossups or bonuses.

Fee Structure
The fee structure for SnowCAT will be as follows:
Base Entry Fee: $80
Buzzer Discount: -$5 for working buzzer system
Staffer Discount: -$10 per staffer with laptop
Long Range Discount: -$10 for each 100 miles traveled one way

Minimum Fee: $50 per team

Discounts will be awarded on a first come first served basis depending on the number of teams and the supply of house staffers. We will notify all teams on whether or not they will be receiving a discount they have requested at least 7 days before the tournament.

Teams registering for this tournament (or any other UMN tournament) will be invoiced by the University of Minnesota’s finance department with instructions on how to pay as the date of the tournament nears.

Any team cancelling their registration after 11:59 PM on Thursday, February 15 will be expected to pay their team’s full registration fee.

Chaperones
The University of Minnesota’s minor policies require that all minors must be accompanied by an adult chaperone at all University or on-campus events. In line with this, we require each school (though not necessarily each team) to bring at least one adult chaperone that remains present throughout the duration of their team’s time at the tournament.

Roster Size
There will be a maximum of 6 players per team. We recommend that teams that have more than 4 players consider splitting into multiple teams.

Registration
To participate, please register through the NAQT registration system found here. We have a tentative field cap of 16 teams; however, we hope to be able to expand the field if the tournament fills up.

Code of Conduct
All players, staffers, and spectators attending GIVNIT or any other UMN Quizbowl event will be required to abide by the UMN Quizbowl code of conduct. Participants who feel that a fellow competitor, staffer, or spectator is not following the code of conduct should fill out the UMN Quizbowl misconduct reporting form.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, feel free to contact University of Minnesota Quiz Bowl at [email protected]. We hope to see you at SnowCAT!
