2024 NAQT Illinois State Championship: 2/24/2024, Centennial HS (Champaign, IL)

Post by Irreligion in Bangladesh »

Hello, all! I'm thrilled to announce that the 18th iteration of the NAQT Illinois State Championship will be held on February 24th, 2024 at Centennial High School in Champaign, Illinois. Registration is now open for qualified teams, and will open on February 1st for wild card bids. Coaches may enter the tournament and/or apply for a wild card bid by using this form.

QUALIFICATION: Teams qualify for NAQT ISC by finishing in the top 25% of the field (rounded up) at any tournament that allows all schools in attendance to use their top players. The top Class A team at each invitational, as long as it finishes in the top half of the field, also qualifies for NAQT State. Teams may also apply for a wild card bid by registering for the tournament using the Google form linked above.

FIELD: The tournament is capped at 32 teams, and we will not be expanding the field.

TOURNAMENT QUESTIONS & RULES: This year's NAQT Illinois State Championship will be played on NAQT's 2024 Division II SCT set, a set of questions produced for collegiate play that is a difficulty level roughly between that of an IS set (as played at IHSSBCA Kickoff) and the harder questions played at HSNCT. The ISC will be played under almost-entirely NAQT rules, which includes 4-on-4 lineups & timed play; halves will be 10 minutes long. Teams may have as many players on the roster as desired. The one exception to NAQT's ruleset -- substitutes may enter at halftime & at overtime, but to streamline the day, not at timeouts.

FORMAT: All 32 teams in the field will play 12 games. There will be five morning games in a card system format. After lunch, teams will be divided into four pools of 8, playing seven afternoon games. Final matches will take place after Round 12 for trophy placement purposes, as necessary.

ENTRY FEE: The tournament entry fee is $100 per team. Each school is expected to bring a working buzzer system and a staffer for the tournament; please contact me immediately if you are unable to bring a buzzer or staffer.

STAFF: We need volunteers to run this event! Full-day staffers will be paid $60, in addition to breakfast and lunch on-site. If you are interested in staffing, please fill out this form.

If you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected]. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in Champaign!
