ReKT VII @ Westview HS (3/2/2024)

Post by Lanzalot6 »

Westview High School is pleased to announce ReKT (Real Knowledge Tournament) VII on March 2nd, directed by Rahul Jogadhenu, Anvit Watwani, and Adarsh Venkateswaran. Our advisors will be Mrs. Katherine Bell and Mr. James Procsal.

QUESTION SET: The tournament will have a Standard and Competitive division. The Competitive division will be playing on SITH, a high school regular difficulty high school set, and the Standard division will be played on SCOP novice 13, a high school novice set which is well suited for teams new to Quizbowl.

ELIGIBILITY:The Varsity division will be open to all Southern California high school teams. The Junior Varsity division will be open to all SoCal middle school teams and all high school teams with no players who have scored 50+ PPG in a JV division, 30+ PPG in a Varsity division, or 10+ PPG at a high school national tournament. Eligibility is subject to the tournament director’s discretion.

DATE/TIME: The tournament will take place on March 2nd, 2023. Check-in will begin at 8:15 A.M. with a general players meeting at 8:45 A.M., and matches will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M.

LOCATION: The tournament will take place on the campus of Westview High School, located at 13500 Camino del Sur, San Diego, CA 92129. Vehicles may park in either lot and persons may enter the campus through the front gates. Matches will take place in the classrooms in the L buildings. A map of the campus can be found here.

REGISTRATION: To register teams, please email [email protected] with the number of teams you wish to register, the number of buzzers and staffers you can bring, and any other discounts. Replying to this thread will not register a team. The registration fee may be paid on-site with either cash or check. Please make all checks payable to Westview ASB, with Westview Quizbowl noted on the check. Any teams that wish to drop less than 24 hours before the tournament must pay full fees.

We will be implementing a soft field cap of 10 teams per division, until we are sure that we have enough staff and rooms to accommodate more. As of right now, the first three teams that a school registers will be automatically let into the field, while the remaining teams will be placed on a wait list. Registration will end on Wednesday, February 28th. All teams registering after this deadline will be waitlisted.

All middle school teams attending the tournament are required to have at least one adult chaperone at all times, whether that be a teacher, coach, or parent of a player. It is the responsibility of the chaperone to stay with players at all times. If you have any questions regarding this policy, please contact us by email.

PRICING:

$90 for the first team
$80 for subsequent teams

DISCOUNTS:
- $5 per working buzzer system (must accommodate at least eight players)
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per school
- $10 per experienced staffer
- $20 discount for any teams that have not competed in pyramidal-style Quizbowl tournaments in the last 2 years

Minimum fee: $50 per team

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at one time. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into two teams. Teams will only be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.

We will be using official NAQT rules, with the exception that matches will be run as untimed halves of ten questions each. In addition, ACF rules will be followed regarding timing.

FOOD: Water will be provided, and eateries exist within a comfortable 5-10 minute walking distance of the campus. Food options include places such as Cotijas, Rubio’s, PizzaRev, Pita 22, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Fresco, etc.

MISCONDUCT:Misconduct, including harassment and cheating, will not be tolerated at this tournament—all players, coaches, and spectators will be held to the PACE code of coinduct, found here. Any incidents should be immediately reported to staff or through the anonymous misconduct form here.

INQUIRIES: Any inquiries can be resolved by emailing [email protected].
