Video?
Video?
Is there a video online somewhere of good quizbowl being played? I'm trying to explain what the game is to incoming freshmen who've never played anything even resembling quizbowl and the only concrete representations I can find are It's Academic, various podcasts or videos involving the distinguished Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering. Since it makes the most sense to show what an average game looks like, anything televised is pretty misleading and I'd never want to do quizbowl if all games looked like CBI. Podcasts don't do well illustrating the team-aspect or just the general atmosphere, but I guess it's better than nothing.
So if I missed something, point me in the direction of a video of NAQT or mACF being played. If no such thing exists, perhaps it'd be useful to have one just as a community resource.

Re: Video?
Video exists of this year's ICT championship game, but I'm not sure if it's been officially published online yet. You may still be able to get it, though.

Re: Video?
Yeah, I videotaped this year's ICT final, but it wasn't my video camera, so Arnav Moudgil is the person who actually has the video. I don't believe he's put it online in any format yet, though.

I know for a fact the 2004 ICT UG final was taped (I have seen part of it), but have no idea who has it.

You can probably play it with this: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ihavenoidea wrote:Mike,

Also, if anyone has the ability to split that video up into segments of less than 10 minutes, please let me know. I would be interested in posting it on Youtube.

Re: Video?
I've got this. It's a good match, but the sound quality isn't great (R. is facing away and our team is at the peak of its mumbly phase) and the file's pretty big (~300 MB.) Let me know if you want it.dtaylor4 wrote:I know for a fact the 2004 ICT UG final was taped (I have seen part of it), but have no idea who has it.

Re: Video?
The ICT video had great quality and picked up the audio really well. Hopefully this could be the start of a trend of video recording qb matches along with just audio. I don't know how practical that is for more than just finals matches since you'd need someone extra to work the camera as opposed to just letting a tape recorder sit there, but it's definitely a great way to show quizbowl at a high level to someone who has no idea what the difference between quizbowl and say, Jeopardy, is. I assume by now that decent camcorders are cheap and plentiful enough for a few people to experiment with this at upcoming events if others think it's a good idea.

Re: Video?
There's a person who moderates events in Canada and videotapes several matches. He does it for "video replay" evidence in case of a protest, and deletes the video after the match (for privacy and to free up space on the disk).Dolemite wrote:The ICT video had great quality and picked up the audio really well. Hypothetically someone could sync up the audio with the podcast audio if they really wanted to.Wigner's friend wrote:It was my mother, actually. The only problem being that pretty much everything is inaudible.ILoveReeses wrote:

Yeah, I had that thought, though I don't have the time to do so. But if anyone wants to volunteer, I can upload the video.Bentley Like Beckham wrote:
