OOTAM: Oxford Open American Mirror
Posted: Tue Jun 05, 2018 6:44 pm
This is an announcement for the OOT American Mirror. This has been talked about some time but for various reasons never got off the ground. The new committee has decided that this will indeed happen and it will be fully Americanised. The Americanisation process will be overseen largely by Daoud Jackson and me.
The tournament's distribution is as follows:
1/1 Biology
1/1 Chemistry
1/1 Physics
1/1 Other Science
1/1 British Literature
1/1 American Literature
1/1 European Literature
1/1 British/World/Miscellaneous Literature
1/1 Anglophone History
1/1 European History
1/1 World History
1/1 Other History
1/1 Visual Fine Arts
1/1 Auditory Fine Arts
1/1 Other Fine Arts
0.75/0.75 Religion
0.75/0.75 Mythology
0.75/0.75 Philosophy
0.75/0.75 Social Science
1/1 Geography
1/1 Miscellaneous
A few things about this tournament:
1) Note the slightly different to usual distribution, particularly the relative lack of American history (though there's still a fair amount of it) and smaller RMPSS distribution.
2) Americanisation is currently taking place now, and will involve being fairly conservative as to what British content will be left in. The last couple of Americanisations of OOT have, for various reasons, ended up with questions which are a little too hard on the British content end of things and a little too easy on the US content end of things. We're hoping to avoid that, but of course there may be the odd difficulty here and there. We will do our best.
3) Due to the nature of the field in the UK, the science is probably more at an MUT/regs- type difficulty while the rest of the set is around the difficulty of regs. We'll make some tweaks to the science based on how it played in the UK, but ultimately expect the science to play a little easier than the rest of the set.
That being said, I think most will find this a good and (hopefully) fun tournament. Having observed the UK circuit's tournaments as a participant for a few years before starting to edit them, I think it's clear we're getting much better than we were even a few years ago.
Mirror fee for this tournament is $40 per team. A couple of places have already contacted us about mirroring the set.
