We will have a Junior Varsity division playing IS-216A and a Varsity division on IS-215. Therefore, this tournament will serve as a qualifier for both the NAQT High School National Championship Tournament (HSNCT) and the PACE National Scholastic Championship (NSC).
Location:
This tournament will be held at Canyon Crest Academy (5951 Village Center Loop Road, San Diego, CA 92130). Check-in will be in room E101 and rounds will most likely be held in the D and E buildings.
Date and Time:
The tournament will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022. Check-in will begin at 8:15 A.M., and rounds will begin at 9:00 A.M. promptly. We anticipate finals for both divisions to begin no later than 5:00 P.M.

Eligibility:
PPT VI is open to all high school teams. Middle school teams will be asked to play in the JV division of this tournament only and first-time or novice high school players are encouraged to compete in JV. The Varsity division is open to all high school teams, while to be eligible for the JV division a team must have no high school players who have ever averaged more than 50 points per game (PPG) in a JV division of a tournament (or similar-difficulty tournament), 30 or more PPG in a Varsity (or similar difficulty) division, or 10 or more PPG at a high school national tournament.
For the purposes of eligibility, only PPG from preliminary rounds of tournaments will be considered. You can check statistics for eligibility here.
Format:
Teams can have up to six players per team, although only four can play at any given point in a match. Substitutions can be made at halftime in each game. This is a closed tournament, meaning that a team must only consist of players from the same school.
The tournament will adhere to the official NAQT rules with the exception that each round will run as two untimed halves with ten tossup-bonus cycles in each half. Computational math questions will be skipped. There will be a preliminary round robin phase followed by reseeding based on win-loss record. Ties for reseedings will be resolved based on points per game, followed by points per bonus.
Pricing:
Pricing is per school, as follows:
$95 for first team
$80 for subsequent teams
Schools that have not competed in any pyramidal-style quiz bowl tournaments in the past two years will pay the minimum fee of $54 per team.
Pay by cash or check. Payment will be due at the start of the tournament during check-in. There is a $10 dollar fee for late payment.
Discounts:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system provided that has at least four working buzzers on both sides and is able to indicate which player has buzzed
-$5 for each 50 miles traveled, one-way, according to Google Maps
-$10 per staffer provided. Staffers must bring their own laptop or device capable of editing Google Sheets and opening PDFs.
The minimum fee is $54 per team.
Registration:
Teams can sign up for this tournament here. Registration will end on Thursday, November 10, 2022 and all teams registering after this deadline will be waitlisted.
There is a soft field cap of 32 teams (16 teams per division), but this is subject to change if there is enough interest and staff. Returning schools will be limited to registering four teams across both divisions. Any additional teams will be placed onto a waitlist, and allowed into the field as space allows in the week before the tournament.
Food:
The shopping center across Village Center Loop Road (about a 5-10 minute walk away from campus) has food options such as Panera Bread, Trader Joe’s, Luna Grill, Fresh Brothers (pizza), Death By Tequila, and much more.
Misconduct:
Misconduct, including but not limited to harassment and cheating, is not tolerated at CCA Quizbowl and at any of our events. Failure to comply with the PACE NSC Code of Conduct will result in players and/or teams responsible for the infraction being immediately ejected from the tournament and banned from future CCA Quizbowl events. Any incidents should be reported to staff or through the anonymous misconduct form.
