As listed, Centennial High School will conduct its annual tournament on SUNDAY OCTOBER 1. See our posting in the High School announcements.
We will have a tournament division for very experienced teams interested in qualifying for HSNCT or PACE.
We will have a standard division for less experienced teams looking to have fun without the pressure of tournament qualification.

Blacksburg High School would like to claim October 21st for the Blacksburg High Academic Invitational (BHAI) VII. We've secured IS-221A for this tournament. We would also like to secure January 13 for the Blacksburg Brain Bowl (BBB) II and most likely will secure a housewrite for this tournament. Both tournaments will offer, at least, a middle school team and player awards. Should there be enough middle school teams in attendance, we can offer a separate division for them. Schools that fall with the Blue Ridge Academic League (BRAL) footprint will earn sweepstakes points towards the end of the season. More information about the BRAC should be coming shortly.

BRAL - Blue Ridge Academic League tournaments are scheduled for this fall. Tournaments run within the BRAL footprint are open to all teams from any location.

As a coordinator for the hyper-local Southwest Virginia Academic Team Alliance (SWATA), we’re announcing our first two tournament dates for the 2023-2024 season:

Literally this morning, we have confirmed that our third Saturday competition of the season will indeed be the annual return of the Tornado Invitational at Richlands High School on January 6, 2024. We anticipate using an NAQT set for that date, but we’re confirming participation in other regional events mirroring NAQT sets before confirming a reservation there.

We will also return the SWATA Solo Challenge and the pop-culture fundraiser Sic Semper Trashis in the spring, dates and sites to be announced.

A reminder that the SWATA footprint is limited to the following counties/independent cities:
Bland County, city of Bristol, Buchanan County, Carroll County, Dickenson County, city of Galax, Giles County, Grayson County, Lee County, city of Norton, Russell County, Scott County, Smyth County, Tazewell County, Washington County, Wise County, Wythe County.

Schools outside of these counties/independent cities asking to participate in these tournaments will only be considered on a case-by-case basis, and the bias will be towards keeping participation limited to the SWATA footprint.

William & Mary would like to claim February 17 for James Blair Bowl VII, our annual HS tournament in Williamsburg, VA. This will be a mirror; we haven't decided on the set yet. I recognize that there is already one tournament listed for that day, but since it's in Roanoke I don't think there will be a conflict.
