This is the official announcement for the College of William & Mary Quiz Bowl Club’s spring 2024 high school tournament, James Blair Bowl VII. The tournament will be held at William & Mary on February 17th, 2024. The tournament director will be me, Duncan Griffiths. This will be an all-day tournament; the exact schedule and further logistical details will be provided to registered schools closer to the tournament date.

This tournament will be run on SWAMP, a high school regular difficulty set. Information about the set can be found here. This tournament is open to all high school teams who are willing and able to come to Williamsburg. All participants on a team must be high school students who go to the same school. This tournament will follow NAQT rules with some exceptions (i.e., the rounds will not be timed)

The base fee for JBB VII will be $70 per team.
There will be a $10 discount for every staffer provided by a school (up to 2) and a $10 discount for every functional buzzer system provided by a school. Please test your buzzers before signing up to ensure they work.
The minimum fee is $30 per team.
Invoices, including information on how to pay, will be sent to registered schools closer to the tournament date.

If your school plans to bring staffers, there will be a cap of two staffers from any one school. Staffers are expected to bring a laptop to keep score and stay throughout most of the tournament. Schools will still receive the staffer discount even if their staffers aren’t needed on the day of the tournament.

The current field cap is 12 teams, but that may change based on interest and staffing logistics. Initially, you may register up to 3 teams per school. Each team may only have a maximum of six players on it (with four playing at a time), so if you would like to register more than six players, you must register an additional team.

Rules against cheating and misconduct will be strictly enforced at this tournament. Anyone suspected of cheating or other misconduct will be removed from the tournament at the tournament director’s discretion. If you suspect anyone of cheating, please contact the TD.

The field has been expanded to 14 teams with the addition of two teams from The Covenant School. The signup form will remain open until 2/7; however, we cannot guarantee that additional teams will be accommodated.

Additionally, I am pleased to announce that we have registered James Blair Bowl VII with PACE to serve a National Scholastic Championship qualifier.
