Re: New England Discussion '18-'19
Boston Latin Nationals finish: T-105 Post-season Morlan ranking: #193 Boston Latin is another team I can see making waves next year. A relatively new team themselves, they were able to surpass expectations and improve enough to make HSNCT playoffs, which I was very impressed by – this indicated to ...

Brown hosting a high school tournament would be so good for the New England circuit! (If you meant high school tournament.).asakiara wrote:I'll be at Brown University next year! Playing, and maybe even pulling a tournament together.

I don't really see how Dorman will be anywhere near the top 15 this season but I am happy to be proved wrong. I think I speak for the entire Dorman A-team when I say that we would love nothing more than to prove you wrong, Nick. I guess our game against you at HSNCT wasn't enough proof for you. You...

Re: State of quizbowl in Mass
Lexington will most likely host ATHENA II as well as LIVMIT next year. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by how well the circuit has continued to grow. I think teams like Bromfield, Boston Latin, and Barrington will play much bigger roles next year to replace some of the teams that are taking hi...

I was focusing on MA/NH teams just because Connecticut teams don't play up here usually. Sorry for omitting PRHS, when I wrote this post PACE hadn't updated their field to include them. I actually haven't played Plymouth in quizbowl at all this year so I don't really have any predictions, but they d...

Re: New England Discussion '17-'18
After States, here is my take on how teams will do at HSNCT: Andover High: Although I'm sure they had their sights set on winning the state championship, Andover is still one of the best teams in New England and the Northeast, especially as they have become less and less of a one-man team throughout...

I think Team Vincent needs to believe in himself. The key to success is self-love and belief in oneself. Team Vincent needs to rid himself of the attitude of "I will not do well and that is because I am bad" and adopt the attitude of "Hey! I can be good if I believe in myself a little...

Re: State of quizbowl in Mass

Re: The State of Good Quizbowl, State-by-State, 2017 Edition
I feel like the ratings value state organizations perhaps too highly. This may be the political scientist in me, but one thing I've seen over the years is that institutions matter. You can go into a bad quizbowl area and run a bunch of good pyramidal tournaments in one year, but if you don't get so...

Re: Preseason Poll, 2017-18... w/ Results!
It's pretty cool to be one of the most divisive teams on the list, with many rankings in the high teens and a few zeros. Either way, we have a lot of great players that have really been developing under the radar this past year, and a season of dedicated practice and even semi-committed studying cou...

I negged 5 times and incorrectly vulched twice, ending the round with -25 points, against Hunter C (made up of middle schoolers) at BHSAT last year. I just kept thinking "this time I actually know the answer" and kept not getting it. We won thanks to the non-idiocy of my teammates.

I don't want to get roasted for arguing my team is underrated, so I'll just say that I think Lehigh will outperform many people's expectations, and that Chattahoochee's B team was quite good last season and I could see their A team being among the best this season. I don't really see how Dorman will...

I think the problem with incorporating older pop culture into a pop culture "canon" is that it becomes hard to distinguish it from fine arts. I, as well as virtually all writers, consider Miles Davis, or any jazz musician for that matter, to be within the fine arts canon. Most people would...

Let it be known that at the 2016 MIT Winter tournament, Lexington A was significantly trailing AMSA A, in the final. Colin Cantwell delegated B team's Kyle Doney to sprint out of the building, and across the street to the MIT Student Center to buy him a Mountain Dew. Apart from being a great workout...
