Re: To expand or not to expand?
Hey, welcome to the forums! With regards to your question, it depends on what else you like. If history truly is your only passion, I'd recommend sticking with it and becoming a skilled specialist, because you'll find it much harder to learn other categories for quizbowl if you aren't really into it...

Re: 2018 SSNCT Pre-Nats Discussion
I will be posting my own Small-School exclusive thoughts on the upcoming season in a soon-to-be-published thread... On another note, I've got a list of 22 Public and 18 Open division schools that I'll probably pare down to 15 and 10, respectively, to give a closer look to, and perhaps make predicti...

Re: 2018 Division I ICT: specific question discussion
Was there a conscious decision on NAQT's part to not include Greek letters in the answerlines of science questions? If I recall correctly Victor answered with a Greek letter for a tossup, was prompted, and then was able to give the correct answer, so if it is policy it's not uniform in its applicat...

I've procrastinated long enough on the rankings I said I'd do, so for those who are waiting on that, I apologize, so here's something in the meantime. This is the list of schools I got, so feel free to debate on who you think would win, who's the dark horse, etc. If I can hammer it out in the next 2...

Re: 2018 SSNCT Pre-Nats Discussion
I think Hallsville is more than just a VSS contender. They are a legit choice to possibly win it all. A superstar and experience go a long way at Nationals. While I personally consider Hallsville a very likely Top 4 contender, I am not pegging them as likely champions, primarily because while they ...

Re: 2018 SSNCT Pre-Nats Discussion
I predict West Point with a top 10 finish. Considering that they kept 70% of their scoring from last year, and that they've put up some pretty good numbers at tournaments this year, I'd say that's quite probable. However, there are a lot of good schools in both divisions, so while I don't think Wes...

On our way to the 2016 NASAT at the University of Kentucky, we (The Pennsylvania teams) had rented a van to drive to the site. Thanks for hosting this poll! It was a pleasure to participate.
Anyways, as much as I'd love to see the names of people with their ballots, I can understand the desire to keep them anonymous. Granted, there are no perfect rankings, but one or two specific rankings that struck me as out-of-place.

Re: Small-School Pre-Nats Poll
Question: Are there any major scools that could feasibly comprise the Top 10 not going to either division? I don't believe any major Traditional Public Division schools have opted not to go (correct me if I'm wrong), but for the C/P Division, are there any schools other than LVA that are not going?

I was wondering, given that the Traditional Public field is full, and the same nearly goes for the C/P division, what are the criteria for the expansion of the field. Hallsville is def the best small school in Missouri, and maybe we trail slightly behind them. Sam rarely negs - he is gonna be very dangerous to other perhaps stronger teams at nats. PPB on NAQT sets, priority given to teams that have scored higher than 20 on IS sets. Southwestern was bumped up because they played SCT, which is likely the hardest set anyone going to SSNCT has played. There were a number of teams in the 23-24 PPB range on A sets so I didn't think the 2 tenths be...

Done. Note that the lack of "VSS" does not necessarily mean the school is too big to be a Very Small School; there are some schools for which we don't yet have this year's data, so we're not sure yet whether they're Very Small. (But we'll figure it out before the tournament.) To my knowle...
