Re: 2018-19 Groger Ranks Awards
Having played with Steven Liu and Darren Petrosino for a good three years, I can confidently say that they should be strongly considered for science and literature, respectively. Steven was the lead scorer in all three of our nationals runs, including our 3rd place Open Division SSNCT team , our T-1...

As an interesting subject of discussion, who do you guys think will be the best teams next year? 1. Millburn 2. Hunter . . . . everyone else Going by HSNCT teams, High Tech graduates their entire B team and 3/4 of their A team. Hunter graduates Daniel, but they obviously will still be strong. Meanw...

A heavy brass motif in this work begins E-flat D E-flat C and is accompanied by the tolling of a bell. This work’s third movement contains a theme from the same composer’s unsuccessful Messe solennelle. That movement, which ends with four timpani imitating thunder, calls for a cor anglais and offst...

I thought Carracci as a hard part was a little too difficult (he was a medium part at 2013 ACF Nats and a hard part at 2014 PACE); the same went for Cimabue, who seemed pretty hard for this difficulty, although I'm not the greatest art player. Also, the tossup on Japan clued the same guy as the firs...

My teammate and I remember a few rounds which had every lit bonus in the second half, and there were at least two times when there were two tossups of the same category in a row. There were also a few hard parts which I thought were too hard for this difficulty and a few tossups that had pretty diff...

I believe Nibelung refers to a separate race? Unfortunately, I don't think Wagner's operas have any equivalent to Volsunga.Santa Claus wrote: ↑Fri Dec 07, 2018 1:01 pm The tossup on “Volsunga” should really accept “Nibelung” or whatever the Wagner-equivalent term is, since there’s not really any difference in the details.

These objects name a [emphasize] compositional style exemplified by a slow F major piece in 6/4 time in which the right hand repeats rising second-inversion broken triads, usually “C F A,” while the left hand alternates longer notes of the tonic above and below that. I assume this clue is talking a...

Re: Announcement - 2019 RULFO (Rather Underrepresented Literature and Fine arts Open)
I understand that there have been concerns regarding the difficulty of this set, so allow me to clarify a few things: The easier half of tossups is aiming to be deeper cuts of more canonical content. This is primarily to avoid having the set become oppressively difficult, but also is because I in pa...

So would the categories be read independently of each other? I'm not generalist, but it seems as though that method would be bad for generalists who score the most across categories.
