Re: Cross-Post: NAQT Timing Discussion

Perhaps NAQT would be more amenable to changing the rule for college quizbowl only?

I don't think high schoolers have similar complaints, especially because NAQT timing rules are pretty standard for high school, whereas the vast majority of college tournaments use different timing rules (5/5/5).

Re: Cross-Post: NAQT Timing Discussion

Yeah, I honestly think 5 is kind of on the high end for tossups and wouldn't mind seeing all of quizbowl standardize on 3/3/5. I also think it's reasonable for NAQT not to want to go to 5, given the clock (and I wouldn't want to do that if it would result in measurably fewer tossups being played, I ...

This tournament took place.

MSU A won DI outright, and Pitt A beat Michigan A in a one-game final to win DII.

Thanks to all the teams who came out, especially for their patience as we dealt with the no-show this morning and its knock-on effects on the schedule.

Stats will be forthcoming shortly.

Ohio State didn't show up to this tournament. Nobody told me this, despite *several* phone calls to *multiple* numbers, until my text message was answered at 10:15. Similarly, it is not true that “at least one team who qualifies for a final is guaranteed to have their ranking reduced”. A reduction in A-value does not equate to a reduction in ranking . For this reason, in my opinion, undergraduate finals games shouldn't count towards final standings or A-values, in order to avoid punishing teams for making a final. Second, at the Carnegie Mellon site, Michigan State A was deemed to have finished ahead of Michigan B. Michigan State (1-4) defeated Michigan B (2-3) in a disadvantaged UG final.
