Re: 2022 Carper Award community discussion
Seconding everything Joey has said above. Simply put, there would not be a British circuit today without the efforts Edmund has put in over the years, and while I understand there's not much chance of any Brits getting an award from ACF he is head and shoulders above any other people you could think...

Re: Y'all need to pay attention to your own community
This is probably going to come across as an incoherent rant, but I am so, so far past the point of caring about how the (straight, male) 'quizbowl community' thinks of me. If you are a man in quizbowl, you have absolutely no idea of what the experience is like for women/non-binary people in the game...

Re: Which Online School are you Going to Next Year? (Collegiate 2020)
Barring catastrophe, I will be enrolled at University College London studying to be a teacher for the next 1-3 years. Won’t have a ton of free time but will hopefully be able to play a tournament or two.

Re: 2020 ACF Regionals: Specific Questions and Errata
The first clue of the Hans Zimmer tossup in Packet B was mostly wrong. The opening suite is specifically a collaboration between Zimmer and James Newton Howard, and while it was based around two notes it certainly doesn’t only consist of those two.

Re: Spartan Housewrite: General Discussion
I modded instead of playing this tournament, so any comments I’ve got about question difficulty and whatnot should be viewed with a pinch of salt. I was also fairly irritable all day due to tournament issues that were nothing at all to do with the set. That being said, this was the least-polished se...

Is there any chance of seeing the text for both the Irish famine TU and the populism TU? I remember not being a massive fan of either, but actually seeing them would be helpful.

Re: EFT 2018 - Thanks and General Discussion
Most of what I wanted to say has already been said better by others, but I'd like to especially congratulate the social science in this set. None of the answerlines were inaccessible as far as I was concerned, and this is pretty much the only regular-minus set I've ever read that included a signific...

Re: STIGMATA
I'm intrigued how you can ask these things in a visual tournament (unless you mean this is just a tournament about visual trash?). Well, I'll certainly try! To clarify, I might include a tossup asking 'name the person who killed these characters', and show various deaths from the Halloween franchis...

STIGMATA
Hello! This is an announcement for STIGMATA (Specific Things In Games, Movies And Television And (other things that couldn't fit into the acronym)), a visual trash tournament entirely written by me, which should be available to play around October of this year, and will probably be about 6 packets. ...

Re: Matt Bruce (cw: sexual assault)
British player here. We haven't sent any teams to ICT in a long while, but still use 2-3 adapted NAQT sets a year (SCT D1 for our nationals, an intramural set for Oxbridge intercollegiate games and apart from last year an adapted collegiate novice set). I'm also not currently in any position of any ...

Oxford Open: American Editors Required
So the main UK site of Oxford Open is this Saturday, and we would like it if our set were to be mirrored in the US or Canada at some point. However, as the set is a British housewrite some of the content is unsuitable for American audiences (at least at the regular-minus difficulty of the rest of th...

Thanks so much to Auroni for writing this, and to Athena for sharing her experiences. For those of you who don't know me (which will be just about everyone who isn't British on here), I'm Francis, and I'm in my final year at Oxford. I first tried quizbowl because I wanted to be on University Challen...

Re: The Spring Open: What Is to be Done?
To add to what's being said above, Oxford are actively trying to tone down the difficulty a little from last year: it was felt that in some areas of the distribution we were exceeding our stated difficulty. Hopefully this will mean that this year's tournament will be more competitive for all the tea...

This is the announcement for Oxford Open 2018, the annual quiz tournament written and hosted by Oxford University Quiz Society! The tournament will be hosted on February 10th 2018, and the field will be open: teams of any four people, students, alumni or otherwise, are encouraged to attend. Unlike i...

Re: UK Player Poll 2017: Now With More Tweed
For some context, here's a brief description of the Oxford players on the poll. Joey Goldman Probably should be the unanimous #1 in the UK. Top scorer at the majority of tournaments he plays, and is particularly good at VFA, philosophy and literature. Has won pretty much every competition there is t...

As there are no more planned physical mirrors of this tournament, I'd like to run some sort of (free) mirror of this over Skype, probably on some Sunday in June. FLOREAT (Global Announcement)
I’m pleased to announce that, after a well-received debut as a side tournament to Oxford Open, FLOREAT (Film Lover Organised Relatively Easily Accessible Tournament) is available for mirrors. The mirror fee will be £5 ($6-7) per player. There are eight packets of 20/20, with the following distributi...
