Ben Cooper Tournament @ Georgetown Day - March 14th (LOGIC)

The Georgetown Day School Quizbowl team is pleased to announce that, on March 14th, 2020, we will be hosting the 2020 Ben Cooper Memorial tournament! The tournament will be played on LOGIC, a regular-difficulty set intended to be a successor to last year's WHAQ III set. For more information about th...

Re: Stamina during Nationals

Basically, my theory on this is that your brain has a certain amount of mental "focus potential" in it and each clue you listen to decreases said focus potential by some amount. So I basically try to limit the number of unnecessary clues I'm wasting "focus potential" on. There seem to be two places ...

Re: DC Metro 2019-2020 Date Claim Thread

GDS's Ben Cooper Memorial Tournament will be moving later in the year and we would tentatively like to claim March 14th for that tournament. I ran into some trouble working with the administration to reserve the building, but with unabated optimism I expect the second attempt to reserve the building...

Could I see conversion stats on the Washington DC/Foggy Bottom/Watergate bonus? I am specifically interested in the conversion on the Foggy Bottom bonus, since I've never heard Foggy Bottom used to refer to the State Department. Thanks!

GDS would like to claim 11/9 for the next iteration of the Benjamin Cooper Memorial Tournament. It will be run on a regs+ set as not to conflict with TJNAT.

Re: DC Metro Area Discussion - 2019-2020

I assume this thread will have as much content as DC-area discussion threads from past years, but I’d love if this year were different. To that effort, I have written more about the DC circuit than this forums has seen for many years. Blair A is going to be the clear best team in the area and probab...

Re: 2019 HSNCT discussion

Could you post the tossup on transformers from Round 22? I know anecdotally that a lot of very good science players negged the tossup with inductors on the clues describing the physical characteristics of transformers.

I really want to be there, but this is unfortunately going to conflict with META and Imaginary Landscapes. Is it possible this could get recorded for those of us who can't be there and posted online later? We do plan to record this and post it online later. We know that there are a bunch of other s...

Re: Women in Quizbowl Panel Discussion @ HSNCT Saturday Night

A more personal note: as a boy who is helping to organize this event, I want to see other men come to this event. Sophia was clear to me while we were planning this that there aren’t enough women currently playing quizbowl to change quizbowl without the help of male allies. Quizbowl needs more men t...

Women in Quizbowl Panel Discussion @ HSNCT Saturday Night

Sophia Weng (a junior on Blair A) and I are organizing a panel discussion to talk about women in quizbowl. The discussion will be in room M101 at the Marquis on Saturday, May 25th, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, about an hour after afternoon games at HSNCT end. Here's what Sophia has to say about the even...

Re: Terrapin available for Spring 2019 mirrors

GDS and a couple of other high school teams were unable to play EFT at UMD because of UMD room reservation policies. Will UMD Quizbowl be working to be sure that they will have worked around said policies and be allowed by the school to host a high school mirror of Terrapin?

Thank you so much for writing such an excellent set, and I really enjoyed playing it. A few things, though: The music tossups on 9/11 and Psalms were extremely transparent very in power. Specifically for Psalms, there are no other Biblical texts that people would write music for, and it says so much...

Re: New Mobile App -- Tycho: Play Quizbowl and Science Bowl

Like this, it would be nice if we could mix questions from different tournaments, so we can just read qu...

Just played in the Georgetown tournament on Saturday. The main thing I remember is that the president of the Philippines needs to be updated, as it is now Rodrigo Duterte and not Benigno Aquino as is written in the packet.
