Re: 2023 ARCADIA Specific Question Discussion
- do the things in the "linear" TU actually have anything to do with each other? especially since you conflate implicitly both the high-school (y=mx + b, i.e. "affine" - and you should probably accept this) and the actual mathematical (y = kx) definition of "linear" in...

My neg on this question is probably a bit peculiar, but I'll still explain what happened from my perspective. Here is the clue I buzzed on, with my buzz marked by (#): In accretion disks, magnetic fields act as springs in a mechanism leading (#) to the onset of this phenomenon, which causes increas...

I want to echo everyone’s praise of Eve, and thank her for being especially understanding when I fell behind early on in the process. Shahar was a very swell science co-editor, cheerily giving lots of feedback, accurately dunking on some of my worse difficulty impulses (circularly-polarized light wa...

Apologies to everyone who negged on the Stirling's formula and replica trick clues in the log tossup due to my poor wording -- will definitely take more care to arrange clues like those so the equation comes earlier in the future.

TU 1.20 on entanglement: "States have this property if they cannot be decomposed as a sum of (*) product states." This clue is wrong, as any state is a sum of product states. Maybe it should be changed to "cannot be decomposed as a product state." Thanks for the catch, fixed! I ...

I think David is being a bit harsh on himself re: physics, considering that it's one of the hardest categories to edit at the hardest tournament, and he had to do it with less time than normal. I had a great time playing this set's physics - there was a lot of stuff I was really excited to hear come...

Seconding S.A. that I have a ton of music to check out now - thank you to William and Sameer! Two minor notes: 1) I thought the Waterfall etude bonus part could have been a bit more clear that the 27 etudes weren't all part of one set - was a bit confused there, and 2) A teammate of mine pointed out...

I've been (slowly) making my way through The Shock of the New over the past few weeks, and in particular watched about half of the Trouble in Utopia episode the other night over dinner. This was a fun set - thanks to all the people who worked on it! I agree that the computation bonus parts might have been a bit too h...

Henry is definitely deserving of consideration for top 10 literature and top 25 overall; his ppb speaks for itself, and he picked up 18 out of the 40 literature questions he heard in the top bracket. Henry was UNC A's best player for a very large part of the regular season: see stats for ACF Winter,...

I think the effort to heavily hit core canon/classroom content made questions feel really rewarding, without sacrificing the excitement and sense of horizon-broadening that ACF Nationals usually has. The succinctness and precision was appreciated -- it was rare that I was uns...
