Re: Connecting quizbowl buzzers to a computer.

In Kentucky, Inquisitor buzzers are used at the State Finals and a lot of teams use the system around the state. It works on PCs and you can run it on just about any old computer you have. We just take an old laptop and a second monitor with us when we go to meets and it shows the score and the time...

Re: Announcing QuizDB: "Knowledge is Power"

Also, since I use your site so often, I set up a recurring donation for $3 a month in perpetuity. I know it is not much, but maybe others who use the site will pitch in too.

If there is anything else I can do to help, let me know.

Re: Announcing QuizDB: "Knowledge is Power"

First of all, thank you for making this database. It is my go-to for creating study material for my team! I'm writing because I used to use Quinterest (which is down now), and it seems that QuizDB gives me back significantly fewer results than Quinterest did. I think I read that QuizDB is a larger d...

Re: Help training a math player for quiz bowl

I'll echo what was said above about Mathcounts. I did Mathcounts in middle school which helped a lot when it came to computational math in high school quiz bowl. You may want to look in particular at the countdown rounds in Mathcounts, because rather than being a written test like the other parts o...

Re: Help training a math player for quiz bowl

I played Science Bowl in high school, and I got really fast at mental arithmetic by factoring the time in my head whenever I got bored. This definitely gave our team an edge. Next, let me fill you in on my suggestion. We are a new high school academic team in Kentucky, so our primary format for com...

Help training a math player for quiz bowl

Hey everyone, First, let me thank you all for all your help. I truly appreciate it. Next, let me fill you in on my suggestion. We are a new high school academic team in Kentucky, so our primary format for competition is quick recall. It is very similar to quiz bowl, with some small differences. One ...

Easily Posting "Live" HTML Files from SQBS to Own Website

Hey everyone, I have been tinkering with SQBS and I have everything set up for my tournament next week, but there is one thing that I think I am overlooking. Before I go on, please note: I am not tech savvy. I have a free Weebly website and a Google Drive and am able to copy and paste HTML code. Any...

Re: Simple Free Tournament Management Software

Thanks for your quick reply! I was finally able to get SQBS working. I think the problem was that I didn't have individuals assigned to each team. Since I'm only using the software to track wins and losses and not individual stats, I didn't think I should have to do that, but I went ahead and made a...

Simple Free Tournament Management Software

Hey everyone, I am hosting an upcoming tournament with three rounds of pool play, reseeding, and then three more rounds of pool play. I'd like to be able to use some kind of software to organize the scores and seeding. I have checked out SQBS2 and it didn't seem to do what I needed it to (possibly o...

Re: Pool Play Format Question

Thanks, guys! I like the balanced pools A and B best and I think I'll go with it. Especially since it has more teams "going for the gold". I see what you're saying about the "marquee event", but since we are having written assessment, most teams will be staying. I like the advantaged final setup, bu...

Hey everyone, We're hosting-for the second year-a middle school tournament in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky. If you search "Goddard" (we are the Rockcastle County Rockets, so you get the joke) on hsquizbowl, you'll find it easily and we'd love for your team to come. That said, I have a problem that I'd like ...
