Re: Canadian Player Poll 2018

Here's the second typing of my Fear Exhibition Ballot. It ranks players by the fear I would feel walking into a game room against them aggregated over all possible teammates and difficulties, but weighting each person's usual teammates and the difficulties I've played them on more heavily. A corolla...

Re: PACENSC 2018 - A Pokemon Set @HSNCT

Similarly, any chance for a mirror at ICT?

Edit: I'm dumb and did not realize ICT is more than a month before HSNCT - might this happen at CO/be available for mirroring during the summer open season?

Re: CMST: Errata

The question on Greece with modern poetry clues was a bit confusing - Cavafy spent all of his writing life in Alexandria, Egypt, and I only recognized the clues based on him when I buzzed, causing me to neg with "Egypt", so that might be a question you want to rephrase.

Re: SCP Foundation Tournament?

Ideal. I know I'll be very busy with school this semester, so what do people say to having pack s of 20 tossups done by mid-April, and then we can decide a mutually convenient time for playing them?

Thanks all!

SCP Foundation Tournament?

Conor Thompson recently proposed an all-SCP tournament, possibly in jest, and I wanted to gauge how much actual interest there might be. I imagine it would be a guerilla tournament where all those interested contribute all-tossup pack s or half-packs to be played over Discord/Skype, but I would be o...

I've got 15 tossups on the SCP Foundation, vocal music, and common links between the two.

Re: Specific Question Discussion

I found the bel canto bonus part rather confusing - I've mostly only seen it used in the context of the Italians of the "long 19th century" (Rossini, Mercadante, Bellini, Donizetti, etc.), whose works generally demanded a fairly wide range. I'm taking the liberty of linking here several particularly...

Re: Use of the Term "Trivia"

At Toronto we're registered as the "Academic Trivia Club" and promote ourselves as such at the annual clubs fair, where last year we got around 100 signups, so it seems to be working for us. That said, a lot of our interest does come from people who played Reach for the Top, which is incontrovertibl...

Re: There Will Be Stock Clues General Discussion

Hey I'm late to this discussion but this was the high point of my (admitted short) quizbowl career so far. Thank you SO MUCH to John and Max for writing this. For what it's worth, my family is Shanghainese and both of the first two dishes that came up in that tossup were things that I'd eaten at hom...

Re: VETO 2017 @ University Of Toronto (Aug. 12, 2017)

Thank you everyone who played opera! We had to end after 16 tossups, but Athena from Chicago won with 75. I hope everyone enjoyed finding out how the distribution worked! Also, I'll be mirroring this on Discord at some point, so please don't discuss the pack with others until it's posted.

Re: Canadian Player Poll 2017: Fluency in French Optional

This took way too long. N.B. I don’t think any of my rankings beyond the top 3 make any sense but here are a bunch of irrelevant comments. 1. Derek So: Have I ever played against this guy? 2. Aayush Rajasekaran: I don’t want to put Rein as the best Toronto player. 3. Rein Dylan Otsason: What can I s...

Re: ACF Nationals Thanks and Discussion

I liked the "other" questions as well. In terms of the myth and social science distribution though, I feel like my team (Toronto B) found the social science the most intimidating part of the tournament, and as much as that reflects on us more than the tournament, I wonder if increasing social scienc...
