Re: ACF Fall 2019 Thanks and General Discussion

I really enjoyed working on this tournament and considered it a wonderful learning experience. Thank you to Rahul for being an excellent head editor—you were communicative, checked in frequently, kind, and understanding. I also really liked reading my fellow editors' questions and getting to Learn N...

Re: ACF Fall 2019 Specific Question Discussion and Errata

I was surprised by the classification of the Native American lit bonus as well, and I think the impact of this sort of subdistributing is often overlooked. Categories like "American Literature" are socially constructed, and their boundaries are determined by the questions we choose to put in them. ...

Re: ACF Fall 2019 Specific Question Discussion and Errata

If I remember correctly, the Native American lit bonus was coded as "world lit." Why wasn't it US lit? Re: How We Treat Each Other: 2019

As a moderator, most people don't really care about how good I am as a player or what standing I have in the larger community or even what my name is, and I like it that way. I'm aware that this isn't the broader point of Caroline's post, which we should consider thoroughly as we work on making qui...

Re: How We Treat Each Other: 2019

(Sorry I'm late!) I semi-consider myself one of the members of the "'peripheral' community [who] actually finds the quizbowl community to be insufferable enough that they don't want to be part of the game at all." "Insufferable" might be a strong word for me, although only just barely, and while I s...

Re: International Expansion of Quizbowl

Quizbowler living in China here (although leaving for the USA very soon); I just wanted to drop by. I participated in the Asian championship tournament mentioned previously in this thread and it was pretty successful, although tournaments in Asia tend to be small, so my standards for what’s a big to...
