Re: 2018-19 Groger Ranks Awards

From my own team: Ethan Ashbrook is an elite literature player. He put up the best stats of any literature specialist at HSNCT and similar stats to James Kuang at PACE. Additionally, Ethan should be considered for your top 20 individuals, as he led Uni in scoring at PACE and his generalism is shadow...

Re: 2019 Masonic/Reinstein Set Discussion

To address the literature questions: "The Lamb", while famous, is probably too hard to toss up at this level. It hasn't been tossed up before at any difficulty. The Comedy of Errors is a bit too hard, a Shakespeare tossup cluing from his comedies would have been more appropriate. Richard Lovelace is...

Re: 2019 Masonic/Reinstein Set Discussion

(Assuming this is the place to post this, sorry if it isn't) In general, I thought this set was decent. There were some minor things that stuck out, though: -Court case being classified under "miscellaneous" when it should have been "history" -Bio bonus where the easy part was either "protostome" or...

Montgomery Blair and Ed Clark played on the online SGI mirror.

EDIT: It also looks like you don't have Penn Bowl's main site or the SGI main site.

Hey all: Arjun from Stevenson and I have started an Illinois HSQB Discord. Ideally, it'll be a way for players to connect with the circuit and discuss upcoming tournaments. Here's the link: https://discord.gg/VuXzEpY . I'd like to ask non-Illinois people to join the main Discord and/or the HSQB Disc...

World history and music isn't much of the distribution. Try looking around into spots not filled by your team and you may find subjects worth studying.

Re: Illinois 18-19

Downstate teams lose basically everyone. I predict a similar order to last year, with Fremd and Barrington moving down a bit and Sandburg moving up.

I think my team and Barrington are both getting some strong rising freshmen.

Re: Illinois '17-'18

I thought that the sectional set was well-written for the most part. One problem that I noticed was that the questions seemed inconsistent in difficulty--some answerlines were far too specific for this level, such as the Checkers speech and the Calvin cycle tossups, while others were too easy, like ...

Re: Illinois '17-'18

I noticed that there was very little RMP on the regionals sets--was this put in place just at regionals so that the weaker teams would be able to convert a higher percentage of the questions, or is the low ratio going to be used at the sectionals and state tournaments as well?

Hopefully O'Fallon comes up to NAQT state. Mark got 70 PPG last time he came, no doubt he's improved over the two years since then.
