Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread

That’s assuming the whole country wants to get vaccinated, which I doubt would happen. We are not going to have 100% immunity to the virus, but we can begin in person events when the numbers reach an acceptable level, which hopefully will be in the March to April timeframe. Quiz bowl is a sport that...

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread

Online quiz bowl, when we attempted to play it earlier this year, was horrendous. The lag was evident. The rounds lasted 3 times as long. Audio issues made hearing the questions near impossible. I’d rather have my students play HQ Trivia then attempt online Quiz Bowl. Playing Quiz Bowl online and pr...

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread

Please, that is a stretch... An Alabama Quiz Bowl tournament having a significant impact outside of the immediate connecting states at this point of the pandemic? That is like saying you are drinking Pharaoh Tuts urine when you bath in the Nile in 2020. If Alabama decisions are impacting other State...

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread

I am a board member in Alabama. I also directed the tournament in December that was in person. 1) The decision for ASCA to do in person tournaments was done by board members representing the entire state populous. We felt it was in the best interest for Alabama quiz bowl. You may disagree, but that ...

Re: Alabama 2019-2020 Discussion Thread

Elementary was a pretty tight division. Discovery, Monrovia, Opelika, and Liberty were all pretty solid. It probably could have gone either way in most matches. MS was also pretty tight. Baldwin, Liberty, Baldwin, Opelika, and Discovery were probably the top teams there. I thought it was Baldwin and...

Re: Alabama 2019-2020 Discussion Thread

So, stats are an area I wish I was better at. I have no idea how to do SPSS, so I just make my own google sheets. I will probably post a link to the sheet.

Long story short, Discovery won the elementary division and Baldwin beat Monrovia in MS Finals in a close 370-320 match

Re: Alabama 2019-2020 Discussion Thread

Also, Opelika is hosting a rather large MS/ELE tournament in December that includes Monrovia, Liberty, Discovery, Baldwin, St. Paul, Prattville, Opelika, Smiths Station, Haleyville, Gadsden, Thompson, and Brookwood. I think that should give us a better idea of the MS and Elementary field before ASCA...

Re: Alabama 2019-2020 Discussion Thread

As for MS, I have to say that Baldwin is the clear cut favorite as the best team. They were good last year, and we saw them a few weeks ago. They have not skipped a beat. Of course, the regular top schools will be competitive. I would watch out for West Point and St. Paul. We played St. Paul in part...

Middle School Rankings

I just found this forum, and I am a first time poster (Corey Harris from Smiths Station), so go easy on me.. Since there is so much on High school, I was wondering where the middle school love was! I figured I would throw in my two cents for the top 10 middle school teams in the state, based on the ...
