Re: 2022 NAQT SCT @ MIT (2/5/2022)

As a minor clarification/correction, the suggestion of a fourth round robin occurred a little before I knew the teams would end up all being 4-4 after round 8 and was initially separate from the discussion about finals sequences (some teams ha...

Re: 2022 NAQT SCT @ MIT (2/5/2022)

This happened. Brown A won the DI field through a finals sequence that for quizbowl's sake I hope never has to be repeated. Yale B cleared the DII field with a perfect record. Congratulations to both teams, and thank you to all the staffers and players for participating! A special thanks as well to ...

Continuing the trend from last year (and I do hope that it becomes a trend), here is a non-exhaustive list of the submissions within my categories I particularly liked. Of the questions that got used in some form, I especially enjoyed reading the questions on the strong CP problem (MIT A), Hermitian...

Re: 2021 ACF Winter - Thanks and General Discussion

I know it already says this up top, but I edited physics and other science (minus earth science) for this set. I wasn’t sure initially whether I wanted to play Winter or edit it, but I’m glad I took the dive. This was a wonderful team to work with for my first foray into editing a collegiate set! Sp...

Also, is there a rationale behind the very small philosophy/social science distribution? I don't mean to defend any of the other decisions being made in this distribution, but 1/1 combined Philosophy+SS is almost certainly a good upper bound for regular difficulty HS sets and is present in nearly e...

Since (apparently) no one else is doing this, might as well fill that niche. Like last year's poll, this is for teams who eligible for and are intending to play ICT DII (i.e. using NAQT's definition of DII). Since there are two other preseason polls happening right now, and given that DII teams can ...

In my opinion, player performance is too dependent on teammates and level of specialization to really be able to get a full picture from stats alone. This is especially true if multiple players on a team have a lot of overlap (e.g. two literature players), or if players' strength in one subject is p...
