Questions were hard, especially bonuses towards the end. To be expected from TJ II, but still... Having 32 teams make playoffs was an odd decision when 44 teams were supposed to show up, and an even odder decision when only 40 made it. Card system was somewhat effective. It was odd that we played Wh...

Considering that there have been predictions of an ice storm this weekend, how will you let us know if the tournament is canceled or delayed? Is there a number we could call?

Google says quiz bowl, with the space in between (googling "quiz bowl" generates 357K hits; googling quizbowl generates 159K hits). Personally, though, I prefer quizbowl (one word). It's not a quiz bowl; it's quizbowl. Then again, at RM, most people usually just call it It's Ac or It's Aca...

We have an IB program, but not the only one in Montgomery County. We're becoming less and less of the county magnet, and more of just a magnet program within the county. With regards to the overall issue, if teams qualify to go, and if they can afford to, then they should be allowed to go; on the ot...

One year of CP 1; I had to fill a tech credit, but didn't necessarily need CP. CP 1 at RM is C++.
NAQT CP seems to be weighted towards Java, with a bit of C++ and compsci thrown in. I wonder what programming languages tend to be taught at the intro level at most schools...

Still, you can't count out RM. Our B Team was quite good this year, as those of you who went to WJ will remember. Add on myself and Keith, and you have a rather solid team.

Though Gov returning all its seniors is scary...

We also won the Super Bowl, 635-415-415. Charlottesville and Hammond tied for second. In the Washington area finals, we came back from sixty points down, winning by ninety points in the end.

The reader had said "Pongo pygmaeus," then Alex Price, on It's Academic today, buzzed in and said "Waiting for Godot." The answer turned out to be Orangutan; the clue was apparently the scientific name for an orangutan.

I apologize if this post seemed to be arguing over the protest. State College beat us fair and square. I was curious about the underlying principle, however (dynastic names of monarchs being unpromptable), and whether that should be changed. To make this question broader, for what reasons should we ...

Again, congrats to State College. We sorta let that one slip out from under us. To be honest, I doubt I would have even gotten the answer right if I had been prompted. One quibble: at times, the questions seemed unreasonably (a bonus on Armenia?) or unnecessarily (the requirement to give the entire ...

We went to TJ II today. It was a good tournament, and A team lost to State College A in the finals. However, there was an issue about one question in the finals bracket. The question asked for a Byzantine monarch, and the monarch's family name (Comnemnus; this name had not come up specifically, alth...
