The majority of high school tossups on the Mali Empire are terrible.
I am only considering tossups between the regs- and regs+ level of high school. Firstly, I notice every Mali Tossup at this difficulty tends to clue the Gbara legislature or the Catalan Atlas's depiction of Mansa Musa first or second line. Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread
I made a high school player poll for Alabama. I will announce the results in roughly the next two weeks. Anyone can vote, but all players ranked must be from Alabama, and in high school or middle school. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1ATWGnxo90Fc4cbtOHy9TRKB5Qd7a-I2Pdj44zulufPY/edit?usp=forms_home...

Is the lack of preference for Vermont intentional? Also is there a subject distribution for this set?

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread
The compromise solution released by ASCA and NAQT seems somewhat better in a way but kind of counterintuitive. Since players still have to congregate with each other in person for district events that's kind of a concern, even though they wouldn't have to play their competitors in person. Additional...

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread
Our choices, given NAQT's refusal, were highly limited, and the volunteer staff of the ASCA board, made up almost entirely of active teachers, simply could not undertake writing the huge number of rounds needed to run the event ourselves, and frankly, lack the experience to write quality questions ...

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread
Given how horrific the Academic Hallmarks questions are, there might as well not be a state championship at all.

Re: Alabama 2020-2021 Discussion Thread
What sets will the Alabama High School state championships be running on? I received word that NAQT will be abandoned in favor of another set provider, as an in-person championship would be preferable to an online one according to ASCA.

Re: Specific Question Discussion Thread
When I buzzed on The Augustus II the Strong tossup I said "August the Strong" since his regnal name in Poland was August. It wasn't accepted because it wasn't listed in the answer line. I protested, but we won the match anyway, so it wasn't considered. Shouldn't August be a valid answer?

Hello, I will be having the regional bee in about 5 days for junior varsity. I previously believed it would be easy as I am relatively good at history, but there just so happens to be possibly the best history player in the state playing JV (who I thought was playing Varsity). What books should I cr...
