Re: DC Metro Area Discussion - 2020-2021
Just a quick post that after Saturday's mirror of IKEA, a college set, I'm pretty convinced that TJ B is a top-15, if not t-10 team. They were able to take a near-full Texas A to the last tossup and go 4/5/1 on a shorthanded Maryland, along with nearly beating us too, all this being shorthanded (The...

Just curious,
Wasn't 2020 Terrapin PIANO difficulty? It's classified under College Regs (7) right now.
Thanks!

Re: LIT Mid-Atlantic Mirror @ Discord (9/5/20)
Thanks for clearing this up.
Although this tournament did have some logistical issues, I really did enjoy the questions and had a great time playing the tournament, even for 12 hours.
Thanks for the LIT team for writing a fun, challenging set and the Duke team for hosting!

Re: DC Metro Area Discussion - 2020-2021
Two underrated teams next year are Langley and Centennial. Centennial has senior Anthony Duan, who is a very good history and geography player, but they also bring up Anurag Sodhi from their ms feeder. Sodhi is a top-tier MS player and seems to scale up pretty well. Centennial usually has a really s...

Re: 2020-21 Groger Ranks Preseason Poll
Plugging a podcast that some friends and I made a couple months ago. It's a rundown of what we (collectively as a group) thought would be a possible top 25 for 2020-21. Feel free to check it out if you need any inspiration. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEx9X1iL7Wo I might write something later if I...

Re: 2019-20 Groger Ranks Player Poll
dmv kids who are good. matt siff is #1. abhinav scary naqt player and very good lit player. rank him overall. justin posner is also super good. the amount of points he puts out with abhinav on his team is pretty ridiculous. he also eats books so he'll get good fast. rank him too overall. katherine i...

Re: 2019-20 Groger Ranks Postseason Poll
Richard Montgomery A is a very, very good NAQT team and an excellent mACF team. Previously, they've had some neg issues and bonus problems, but it seems like they've cleaned that up. They are seriously underranked and are a top 10 caliber team. Langley is also very good. William Orr is the best lit...

Re: DC Metro End-of-Season Individual Poll
As Abhinav has already touched upon the top ten overall players, I'd like to focus on underclassmen and players from TJ. For freshmen, Cavan Gabaldon O'Neill from BASIS put an impressive fifty powers over eleven games on IS-190. He's a strong generalist who will be getting better throughout the year...

DC Metro End-of-Season Individual Poll
Greetings everyone. As you all know, the 2019-2020 Quizbowl season was sadly cut short by COVID-19. Therefore, due to popular demand (I asked in the DMV Discord), I have decided to announce a 2019-2020 DMV Player Poll. The poll will work very similar to the one Groger Ranks did last year, (https://h...

I mean Elliott, you did very well at 190. You're also a freshman and so much better than I am when I was a freshman lol.CabbageHugs wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 11:20 pmNot sure about that but thanks?.....

Re: DC Metro Area Discussion - 2019-2020
As the season reaches 2/3 of the way through, a lot has changed in the DC area. The class of 2023 is pretty promising and I'd like to highlight them as well as shill for a couple of my teammates. Similar to Gus' post, I'll be focusing on underclassmen (2022 and 2023). 2023: Elliott Lee (TJ): As the ...

Re: Getting "Real" Literature Knowledge
You seem to be in the same scenario as me. Honestly, memorizing clues and knowing as much as you can about books will not guarantee that you power the question, sometimes even if you've read the book. Truth be told is recognizing first-line clues isn't fully you're fault, you just aren't thinking a...

Re: Getting "Real" Literature Knowledge
Hi Justin, Welcome to the forums! It's always great to see high schoolers get excited about quizbowl. I think what you're asking is a natural question for someone entering the community and starting to take the game seriously. I think it also expresses a couple misconceptions I've noticed elsewhere...

Getting "Real" Literature Knowledge
Hello everyone! I'm a rising sophomore at TJHSST. I recently joined the school's quizbowl club, and have been doing pretty well due to my summer grind. During the summer, I was able to gain a lot of literature knowledge from a combination of reading packets and carding literature along with the occa...
