Teams advancing from the ASCA district competition at UAH:
Sparkman
Bob Jones
James Clemens
Buckhorn
Huntsville High
Grissom
My understanding is that two additional teams to be announced later will advance as well.

Re: Alabama 2012-2013

I was really pleased to see that ASCA had started using NAQT questions. Using good questions should help with improving player quality in the state since it gives the student more information and forces the student to think more. Having questions where you know the answer is "Scott Joplin"...

Re: Alabama 2012-2013

I am trying to find out the results from the district at UAH and will post when I hear.

From what I saw, Sparkman, Huntsville, and Randolph were doing well.

Any predictions on the top contenders at state?

I would pick Brindlee Mountain, ISS, and Grissom for the top three.

Also, I think Russelville has a lot of potential if they keep working.

One of the twins on their team knows quite a bit of literature. They are not twins. They both know literature, though the older sister knows more than the younger. Unfortunately, she will also be graduating this year. My top three picks for next year, in no particular order, are: Brindlee Mountain ...

Congratulations to Brindlee Mountain for winning NAQT State. And to Indian Springs and Bob Jones for finishing second and third. Sounded like it was a good tournament. Maybe next year, more teams will attend NAQT State.

Also, to all those who are wondering, CCA will have a team next year.

If more schools hosted NAQT style invitationals rather than ASCA style invitationals, there would be more interest in the NAQT State. As it is, a lot of schools write their own questions for their tournament, and ASCA questions are a lot easier to write than NAQT questions. And you don't have to pay...

I think, though, that until it becomes harder to get to NAQT State, or it becomes much larger than it is, teams won't consider it more prestigious than other tournaments. Therefore, I hope that you get to host it next year and get the word out to everybody that they need to be there. Maybe, if enoug...

I'm wondering about why some of the best teams aren't going - paticularly ASFA, CCA (last year's champs), Cullman, LAMP, Grissom, Hoover, etc, etc. I can't speak for everybody, but there are four main reasons why we aren't going. 1. It is on Easter weekend which is a bad time for scheduling. 2. Mar...

One of the moderators at State said that they didn't have anybody that really knew math. He said that they checked all the questions except the math ones due to their lack of knowledge in that area.

I have three questions.

1. Will there be awards based on individual scores?

2. What ASCA rules will be modified (blitzing would be nice)?

3. What is the deadline to sign up?

Thanks
