Re: MUSES Online 8/18

Yeah this tournament was a lot more fun than the distribution would have led me to expect. There's also a ton of content here--with 12 packets and bonuses it's pretty much a full tournament.

Given that Aseem is editing this, I assume there's going to be a California mirror? Would be great if that and other sites besides the New York one can get announced soon. Would also be nice to know if there's going to be any consensus main site.

Re: Best Practices for Running a Discord Tournament

Regarding PTT, moderators should also hold down the push to talk button a little bit after they stop talking. If you release the button right away, sometimes the end of the sentence is cut off. I've had this problem a couple of times. Teams should use push-to-talk, but for moderators, I think it's ...

Here's a more organized version of how to run a good Discord tournament. This post is missing some of the very basics of how such a tournament works. I'll add that when I get a chance. Before the tournament: Tournament Directors: -Send out frequent reminders that the tournament is coming up to your ...

Re: Introducing QuizDroid PacketBuilder (qems csv --> packetized LaTeX pdfs)

Am I missing the link to the tool? I scanned the post a few times and don't see it. It sounds like you're taking the high-level category (i.e. Fine Arts) and then randomly choosing questions to put into the packet. While this will work decently for some categories, it won't work for a category like ...

I wonder if some of this is just due to the inherent limitations of the shootout format with a lot of people. I've never personally found shootouts to be very enjoyable once you get over maybe 10 people which is why I largely avoid Discord packet readings (team-based Discord events are another matte...

Re: Faster (Human) Parsing of Answer Lines

At the risk both of iconoclasm and derailing this thread, surely the simplest significant quality-of-life improvement to be made in quizbowl packets would be to put bonuses between tossups and have the bonuses associated with dead tossups be skipped; this would both prevent readers from having to s...
