Re: MOQBA Novice Mirror Hosted by Stony Brook (1/9/21)

Teams cannot have won 3 or more high school tournaments (at any level) in a school year and cannot have scored 50+ ppg at a novice tournament, 30+ ppg at a regs tournament, or 10+ ppg at a nats tournament. Teams can ask for the tournament director to grant exceptions. Do you mean for the 50/30/10 p...

Re: Earlybird Online (10/3/2020)

University Lab A is listed as 2nd place where the stats are posted despite your forums post saying Buffalo Grove A placed 2nd. Which one of these is correct? Also, the stats page has Stevenson B as 4th, not Stevenson A. Edit: Never mind, I was looking at “All Games” which I assumed was a cumulative ...

I had no idea this existed—thanks. Searching for team results through the forums is so time-consuming.

Re: Wider camera requirements for online quiz bowl

So far cheating allegations have been more of an issue at the collegiate level, so that's definitely where the most attention needs to be--I only referred to AQBL because that was an organization that would be conducting a lot of online mirrors that I could name off the top of my head, though perhap...

Re: Wider camera requirements for online quiz bowl

I'm in general in favor of an approach like this for "serious" tournaments. It's a relatively low barrier to entry and will make a lot of cheating more difficult. Of course, in practice it's going to be hard to get through to people that you need to do this setup and stick with it through the tourn...

Re: Collegiate Preseason Poll 2020-1

Presumably Tim Morrison A combination of Tim and (in my opinion) Stanford being underranked in last year's postseason poll. Gotcha. There’s only so much i can ascertain through stats (I usually check on NAQT’s site because I don’t know any convenient alternatives—I’m open to suggestions), but from ...

Re: Collegiate Preseason Poll 2020-1

Out of curiosity, may I ask the voters what caused Stanford to go up 9 spots since the last postseason poll?

There is a Saturday January 11th, 2020, but that has passed. Do you mean to schedule this on the second Saturday of January 2021?

Re: Earlybird Online (10/3/2020)

Is this for college or high school teams? I don’t think it was clearly posted on this thread or the original RAFT II thread, but I’m assuming it’s a high school set since there’s a middle school mirror reserved on the main thread for RAFT II. I don’t know how to add a hyperlink on these posts, but ...

Re: FALL 2020 - Spring Undergraduate Novice (SUN) 2020 Southeast Online Mirror (9/12/2020)

Please let me know if you'd like to play, we'd be glad to have you! We definitely plan on having at least one team, I just need a couple more days to determine the exact roster. We're getting going a bit later than I was hoping we would. I know we're cutting it close to the deadline, but I will def...

Re: Increasing question response speed

My comment is more pseudoscience than anything else and you might find that other thread with serious suggestions more helpful, but you could try getting as excited as possible about a question in your speciality. If you’re a generalist then you can get really pumped about quiz bowl in general and t...

Re: FALL 2020 - Spring Undergraduate Novice (SUN) 2020 Southeast Online Mirror (9/12/2020)

1) Good catch. 2) To clarify: do the new to quiz bowl discounts stack? Trying to determine if the base price for a UNF team would be $50 or $60. Edit: reading this back I'm going to assume it's $60--stacking discounts within the "new to quizbowl" category would be needlessly confusing. I'm kind of i...
