Re: 2016 HSNCT discussion

Nobody calls amphotericin B by its brand name any more, unless they've been practicing medicine forever. I've taken two courses on antibiotics and I don't remember ever discussing that brand name. I'm a practicing pharmacy technician at a major metropolitan hospital, and we use the brand names (Amb...

Re: 2014 MSNCT discussion

From this post : This was only my second time ever reading at the middle school level, but I actually found many of the questions to be rather difficult, for example, a leadin about TORCH in placenta that my scorekeeper noted was something he learned in med school. I'd be interested to see this ques...

Re: Quiz Bowl Survivor: 50 Buzz, 49 Neg

4. ACF/NAQT Regionals/Sectionals - Despite improving over the course of the season, these two tournaments only solidified the fact that we were considerably behind Chicago and Michigan at both formats. Over the course of the next two months, I probably worked as hard as any time in my life over the...

Re: How to Study American History

I haven't had much lucking in finding other large-scale online or print collections of historical political cartoons, but I'm sure other people in the community have and I'd love it if they shared 'em. The "Comics Should Be Good" blog took a look at Pulitzer Prize winning cartoons in 2009...

Re: Let's talk about pseudonyms again

To preserve privacy, post statistics online with initials (M. Meyer, for instance).

Keep records of the real names, provide them if necessary to purposes of seeding.

Re: Universal Pronunciation Guide

Replacing an incomprehensible string of characters with an indecipherable one defeats the purpose. What you're looking for is a string of letters some sophomore volunteer who is probably inexperienced at reading out loud can look at and sound out an unfamiliar word easily and relatively quickly. It ...

Re: TRASH Regionals: Upper Midwest

I'll be part of a team (at least one of my old teammates can possibly make it), assuming the minor miracle happens and I can get the days off.

I'm interested. It'll depend on if I can get time off at work on such short notice.
