I'm curious about the comment about indie rock questions from way the hell higher up in the thread. First, I didn't write either of the questions mentioned, nor any other indie rock question, and am not invested in the existence of indie rock questions to any significant degree, so this isn't defens...

I'm not sure what 'stats' these would be that we're reporting to NAQT. Stats from the year's other tournaments? The problem with that is some teams (well, everywhere I've played in the last 4 1/2 years) don't put their 'A' squads together in a room until SCT and Regionals time, or even not until ICT...

Isn't the issue here whether or not completely novice or relatively inexperienced teams ought to attend Shorter's CUT-style tournament instead of ACF Fall? At least two ACF Fall editors themselves have said that it might be better for those teams to go to the former. Why isn't that good enough? On t...

I really have to come to the defense of one of my pet topics here. I don't understand how, for a national championship tournament which is billed as including trash questions, it is unacceptable to write questions whose answers are perhaps only accessible to players who commit significant amounts of...

Generally, the specific clues people have mentioned as being bad were just that. Admittedly, the Demosthenes thing juked me out of my pants as I figured the question couldn't possibly be as transparent as it seemed. But on the issue of the bonus on the Spanish riding school, privilege just shouldn't...

Just an update on this. It's currently snowing pretty heavily down here in Northfield, so I wouldn't be surprised if the forecasts for the Cities are accurate. Won't know how much sticks until later.

Carleton's graduating three this year. I'll be at Chicago for at least the next year and hope to play as much as possible. Max is going off to Boston University to do something with numbers and doesn't plan on playing in the future. And Pat for now is planning to start up a one-man team at North Dak...

How firm is that UIS team on coming, Gabe? That would be crazy, I have to know someone on that team.

I can't be sure, but I assume that "the "not enough reward in quizbowl"" argument Ryan referenced is related to my call for undergraduate and rookie divisions at ACF tournaments. To be perfectly honest, yes, it is an argument for trophies. I like winning. I prefer it over losing....

Admittedly, the logistics of having ACF Div II titles seem awkward. In particular, as ACF Nationals is not a qualification-only tournament, there wouldn't be a clear-cut way (like the NAQT model) to determine when a team is no longer Div II eligible. Maybe a better system would be to just have TDs o...

I imagine there's already been a thread or two on this somewhere, but I'm not enough of a troll to find it/them. My teammate Max just made the very good point to me that one of the major reasons younger teams in particular are reluctant to attend things like ACF Regionals is the lack of an undergrad...

In case anyone feels like including an undergraduate team on their rankings, Carleton will be attending ACF as well as ICT this year. Pat Hope was otherwise occupied for ACF Regionals, but will be on the squad in Nashville.
