Best of luck to everyone this weekend! I'm very sad that I couldn't be there this year to watch. So it goes.

Re: Michigan 08-09
After Kurtis, the second highest scorer on EL (according to NAQT individual rankings) was Liz Fujita, who was ranked at 650th. Ah, I was trying to avoid thinking about that. It is alarmingly difficult to play against another team and Kurtis. Heh. I will be interested to see what EL can do ne...

Re: Starting a College Team
I am glad to hear that someone else is trying to start up a team in college; I'm going to Michigan Tech, where there is tragically no existing team. This thread has been quite helpful - thanks!

Re: What got you into Quizbowl?
Peer pressure! ...well, partly. I started watching our local quiz show, Quiz Busters, when I was really, really little. I kind of forgot about it for a while, then my sophomore year of high school, someone in my chemistry class whom I had never met but who was on quiz bowl told me I should try it, a...

Re: 08 HSNCT Live Coverage/Post Tourney Discussion - TJ Wins!
Congratulations of course to TJ, as well as to Charter on a great run this year - especially the first of the final games. Many thanks to NAQT for a fantastic tournament, and a round of applause to all the teams that participated. This was fun

Re: Michigan 07-08
Does anybody have the results to the MSU March Madness tournament this weekend? 1. EL 2. Novi 3. Brighton 4. DeWitt As squareroot165 pointed out, it was a very long tournament. There was supposed to be a four-team playoff, but by the time we got to that point in the tournament, everyone was too bra...

Re: Michigan 07-08
Any news about March Madness at MSU on 3/22? NAQT questions are being used, but I haven't read/seen much about it. From an email I received earlier today: "Just as a reminder, the tournament will use NAQT rules with two exceptions. The game will consist of 2, un-timed, 12 question halves, and ...

Re: Michigan 07-08
It was a fun tournament, with 22 teams for an eight-team playoff. The questions ranged from fairly easy, to fairly good (most of them), to a handful that were painfully difficult. And, as squareroot165 noted, we (EL) were without Kurtis and Priya.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that EL, DCC, Troy, Novi, and DCD will continue to be quite good. A lot of schools graduated some outstanding seniors, but I think that everyone will still be strong. As everyone has pointed out, we (EL) have just graduated most of our varsity team. Kurtis is going to...

I'll guess that those teams will finish in the top 20 at NAQT with Troy cracking the top 10. Kurtis from East Lansing and Kareem from Troy will be top 10 in individual scoring, with the former placing in the top 4. Kurtis got 5th, Kareem 12th. Nicely done on both counts. All individual stats here: ...

Two cents
Just to toss in my two cents, I think Michigan is pretty strong this year. Especially with team like DCC, Troy, Novi, and EL, at least a few are going to do quite well. I was also pleased to see the results of the pre-nationals poll ranked three Michigan teams quite respectably (14, 15, and 17, or s...
