Re: BHSAT XVII (3/29/08) at Yale (New Haven, CT)

*Tentative*

Moravian Academy, PA for 1 team and a buzzer system

After all, I'd love to stop by New Haven before Bulldog Days!

Re: Bergen County Academies Tournament 4/05/08 (Hackensack, NJ)

Sorry to hear about the pending cancellation of BOAT, which my teammates and I had looked forward to attending. Since several teams would like another shot at qualifying for Nationals (or at playing against teams of that caliber), what if Moravian were to host a tournament on April 5th using the sam...

Since we at Moravian compete in only a handful of tournaments each year (and mostly during the second semester), it's understandable that we're usually overlooked in these rankings. But considering that so far we've come within one tossup of beating both Dorman and Wilmington Charter A at Harvard an...

Maybe Moravian? And that's totally speculative at this point, especially since it'll come off the heels of ILMUNC (that is, Model UN) held at UPenn the weekend prior. Good luck with starting a college bowl program, though! It's nice to see it developing in the eastern part of Pennsylvania, if not at...

Oy, there is a logical reason why Moravian competed at Yale last weekend. As soon as I have some spare time, I'll explain the whole sequence of events, not that our/my attending should've been controversial in the first place. Fine, maybe a bit suspicious, but it'll soon become very clear...

Hunter tentatively (but pretty likely) registers 1 team, probably not 2, although I guess it could be conceivable that we bring two.
Take everything that Guy just wrote, but substitute Hunter with Moravian!

Uh oh, I might be competing as a one-man team at Yale's 10/13 tournament, which will also use the 69A set. (Long story...) That said, Moravian would still like to participate in the Delaware Fall Open. Since I'll be in Wilmington anyway, thanks to my grandparents who live there, could I at least be ...

This tournament will almost definitely happen on March 22. Currently, nobody has mentioned that date as not working for them, and I'm very hopeful it stays that way. Sorry for being a spoilsport, but isn't that the weekend of Easter? I happen to be Jewish, but there's also a conflict with my Spring...

Where's Moravian? After all, we did defeat #12 Walter Johnson at PACE, and only one of my teammates was a senior. Even though we don't have many results apart from Nationals, I still maintain that Moravian is either underrated or, in this instance, omitted entirely from these polls--not that they me...

Alas, I've lobbied unsuccessfully for a T-shirt that says something like, "Moravian Academy Scholastic Scrimmage...we do speed."

Big surprise when our principal rejected my suggestion. I've also campaigned for that slogan on behalf of our XC team, but to no avail.

Charlie, don't beat yourself up too much because I blurted out something equally atrocious at PACE: The question was getting at Bank of America, and we were playing against Robinson. Both the Bank of America and Robinson are headquartered, so to speak, in North Carolina. When I realized what the ans...

Others to look out for: Stuyvesant, Danville, East Lansing, Brindlee Mtn., Dunbar, Eden Prairie, others? Um, Moravian? Moravian should certainly be in the mix next year because we're losing only one senior. The two rising juniors and I have finally decided to *study* and practice regularly w...

Whoa, I watched an episode of Cash Cab yesterday! But what impressed me more than the questions themselves was the cultural literacy of most "contestants." For example, the elderly couple heading to MoMA managed to eke out tryptophan. On the other hand, the Discovery Channel probably withh...

I'm glad that others have recognized the beastliness that is Yost! It's a darn shame that only three teams per grouping can qualify for the playoffs. If anyone from MLK, TJ B, or Eden Prairie is lurking on this thread, be assured that our team (Moravian) hasn't practiced together AT ALL since NAQT H...

I'm really glad that you mentioned Allentown Central Catholic and Emmaus, two of the best teams in the Lehigh Valley. Pennsylvania '07-'08

As you may have deduced from my username, I'm Ben Schenkel from Moravian Academy. Despite my strong preference for pyramidal questions (a la NAQT or PACE), they're practically non-existent in eastern Pennsylvania, with the exceptions of Philly and its suburbs. Buzzer-beaters and an unusual selection...
