My coach is making me help with philosophy

So, I'm the best at quiz bowl on my team, and my coach wants me to help the freshmen and sophomores with philosophers/philosophy even though I really don't know much beyond the basics. Why am I here, do you ask? I need some help. First off, I am going to have to ask the kind folks here to give me a ...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

St. X was a dark horse team and turned out very good. They beat us (MNHHS) in the first round 25-24. They got math questions left and right, and our inability to capitalize on questions they missed came back to bite us. I got Pancho Villa near the end and could have tied the game but we spent too lo...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Last time I checked, guys, we still have to play the format, no matter how God-forsaken and absurd it is. The reason why everyone in Kentucky participates is because that is all most schools know...they started it in elementary school and they were raised to play/participate in it. 95% of Kentucky h...

Well, like I said, I am looking at Kentucky (if I go there I'll try to see what I can do to get the team back up and running). I am also looking at Xavier in Cincinnati. Colleges with active teams

I'm a senior this year and I was wondering what schools had active college bowl teams? I'm not saying I'm necessarily going to participate but if I get bored in college I'd like something to be able to do. I know my own state school's (Kentucky) team is relatively dormant.

Re: 6th Annual Brindlee Mountain Invitational (Dec. 5, 2009)

Vanderbilt usually has dozens of teams at its Fall tournament every year. They also do pool play and they base their seeding on pool records. I think seeding beyond that is determines by ppg stats, which I feel would be the best way to do it. And it's also single elimination. Single elimination suck...

Re: 6th Annual Brindlee Mountain Invitational (Dec. 5, 2009)

Okay, I had a few problems with this tournament. First of all, the pools were a little weird. Madisonville was placed in a pool with Hoover A, and there was really no question as to who was better. Hoover was definitely the best team at the tournament. However, Madisonville was also definitely 2nd o...

Re: Kentucky 09-10

I'm sorry but I'm pretty sure no one wanted to play a 10+ team round robin. Johnson Central/Russell had a long drive, and Madisonville had a 2+ hour drive. The drawing was random and that was fair. The format was not the best, but it was the most efficient. Madisonville drew Russell, Grayson A, and ...

I was pleased with how the tournament went. But like Nick said, the playoffs were VERY difficult. Not so much the tossups, but more that the bonuses were a bit off the wall.

DCC A is very good, as is Grayson. Congrats to them. I really wish we could have had two of our starters, though.

I actually thought Dunbar ran a pretty good tournament. The field was competitive and the moderators were very good. The no negs thing was a plus, as I would've easily taken my team out of any contention otherwise.
