Re: THUNDER Discussion

I think Bob Fosse is a fine choice for a regular difficulty tournament. My art film class delved pretty deeply into the Fosse film canon (most specifically Cabaret and Lenny), and cinematically, he is pretty relevant to the development of film as an art form. Even though Fosse only shows two relevan...

Re: ACF Fall Northeast (10/31) @ MIT

I had to drive 12 hours and around 700 miles, pay hotel and tournament fees, and in the end never got to play any questions. Is it too much to ask for some MIT quizbowlers to spend even half of their day to walk a couple hundred feet and staff this tournament? Sorry, Barry. That does sincerely suck...

Just to resolve the Flushing HS case, the reason Flushing played no playoff games was simply because they had to leave the tournament for their high school graduation ceremony on Sunday.

Re: Gaddis II Thanks and Discussion

I think clues about the theatrical interpretation of dramas are fine as long as they are genuinely significant to the drama's development or significance. Just as it would be disingenuous of me to include random analyses of minor characters in a tossup about some work of literature, it would be pret...

Re: Gaddis II Thanks and Discussion

Since many of my sentiments regarding the HSNCT set echo the criticisms posited by a lot of people already, I won't rehash them. Instead I'll give my thoughts on Gaddis. First, I thought the tournament was amazing. Gaddis pretty much salvaged my weekend. After hearing an interminable barrage of TUs ...

Re: San Diego Academic League Questions

Regarding the NCAL question source, I think I heard once (while watching a telecasted match on ITV) that some old lady was responsible for constructing the original archive of questions. The archive then builds up questions by requiring coaches to submit ten or so questions (both tossups and bonuses...

Re: Southern California Pre-Nationals Tuneup: Planning

This is a swell idea, Dwight.

The weekend of the 16/17 works fine for RB. In terms of the question set, I lean toward HSAPQ PACE #2 to gear up for the NSC. A mirror of a collegiate regular difficulty tournament would be chill, too (at least for the top division).

Re: Announcement: ACF Fall West (11/8/08) at UC Irvine

Beside the late tournament start (that like Micah said was really just funny) and J. Luna's random departure (ostensibly for "complicated" reasons according to Marcus) that caused our extremely late round against Arcadia B, the tournament was well-directed. So thanks to Dwight for directin...

Re: Southern California 08-09

As a proponent of mACF quizbowl, I also really don't understand this "WE DONT DO PACE!" attitude either. Does Santa Monica consider the NSC less legitimate than the HSNCT because there are less teams playing? I mean, like, I don't even understand the barrier between NAQT quizbowl and mACF ...

I don't see why you guys would have to wake up at 5 to get to our tourney on time. It starts on 9, a quick google map search says it takes 2 hours to get to RB from Arcadia. Leaving from Arcadia at any time from 6:30-7:00 seems sufficient ...

Let's not make too big of a deal about this. It was a solid final match, and Santa Monica came out on top in that game (deservedly so). Though I also find the scheduling/winner decision somewhat confusing and nonsensical, whatever happened happened. Onward we go.

Seriously, this is pretty ridiculous how terribly late and delayed the distribution of packets and the posting of statistics are taking. I hope this is just an aberration that will be corrected in the future, because I've enjoyed many of the UCLA tournaments I've been to in the past.
