Re: Science Packets for High School

This may be obvious, but I find this helps with all topics. Reading and learning from science bonuses of higher level questions like ACF potentially can help quite a bit during tossups. Edit: I realize that isn't a science packet so here is my contribution to this thread: http://quizbowl.stanford.ed...

Re: 08-09 Pre-Season Poll Results - Congratulations Charter!

These stats matter not. I alone had 27(?) powers and that didn't get my team any higher than Dorman B. As its been said before, games are won on 10s, not 15s. I see your point and I also say that bonus conversion is huge. But to your point, Dorman B had 75 normal tossups (10s) and GDS had 86 normal...

Re: 08-09 Pre-Season Poll Results - Congratulations Charter!

Unless someone mistakenly a) thought people had not graduated or b) thought this was a Post Nationals Poll Edit: I will say that I disagee with GDS being that low since they return almost 100 ppg and a combined 38 powers, while Dorman A returns 32 powers and about 100 ppg (looking at only HSNCT stat...

James Island looks to be the best team with pretty much everyone returning. Granted they didn't go to NAQT, but i think that was the coaches decision. yada yada, as of now, Dorman and Wilmington look in good position. I am sure TJ can pull it off and with Daichi's dedication, WJ can easily make top 4 if not 3 . Re: DC/Metro Area 2007-08

Come to think of it, at the moment most of the teams people would consider to be contenders for next year - TJ, Charter, Dorman, even WJ and Hunter - are at the moment viewed by 90% of the quizbowl community as one-man armies. The problem is the other 3 members of each of these teams next year are ...

Nothing against Shantanu, but for a general player, I would without hesitation choose Charlie Dees or Dalles Simmons.

I am not from this region, but next year, with Naren, Henry, Daichi, Dan Puma, and the guy from RM returning, all the respective teams are easily in my top 15 if not 10. Those are 5 individuals who could easily put the hurt on any team by themselves, and they still have a year to go.

Re: Evolution of High School Quizbowl

A problem that we have is that if we push our freshmen to work to get better, they will quit. And our seniors and juniors are just as lazy that pushing would not change their mind. If schools do not have people who care to put the time in, then why let them get slaughtered in high level tournaments?

I agree with Charlie on that point. I also don't see the problem with doing 20Tu and 20 bonuses. Yes, someone said it adds variety, but the benefit of a more balanced round seems to outweigh that. To me, theres nothing wrong with doing all the bonuses.
